Prince William and Kate Middleton are getting married! News of the Prince William Kate Middleton engagement came straight down the royal pike this morning through such new-fangled medium as Facebook and The Prince of Wales' web site. Today's happy news of an upcoming royal wedding includes such fun details as a loose wedding date, and shares when the pair really became engaged.

Prince William Kate Middleton Engaged; Royal Wedding Set For Next Year!

The official royal release reads as follows:

"His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales and Miss Catherine Middleton are engaged to be married."

The message on Prince William's web site goes on to give a few precious details of the Prince William Kate Middleton engagement. Firstly, the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2011. Yes, Prince William asked Kate's dad for permission, which he obviously received (shocker!). The Queen Mum and "other members of the family" were also privy to the news before the rest of the world, as it should be.

Also, the pair has actually been engaged for weeks now! Prince William actually gave Miss. (Catherine) Kate Middleton an engagement ring while on holiday in Africa back in October. And what about the ring? Well, we have yet to see it, but we're pretty sure Prince Will will do his lady proper, with a little help from those gilded pockets he inherited!

Ah, to be born a prince! Or to be loved by one....Yes, Miss. Catherine (Kate) Middleton and her engagement ring are very lucky indeed. The Prince William and Kate Middleton engagement and royal wedding will be the biggest event in Britain since Prince William's own mother was married to Prince Charles. Though Princess Diana had many difficulties in life, and though her life was cut tragically short, she was, after all, granted a title and status most little girls could only wish to attain: she was a princess.

Now Catherine Middleton will carry on the tradition of marrying into royalty and living that supposed-to-be dream that doesn't always quite turn out to be a fairy tale. Let's wish for Prince William and Kate Middleton a far smoother, easier path than the one Princess Diana and Prince Charles walked. Congratulations are in order to the happy couple, and best wishes from across the pond!

Let's face it: no one puts on a royal wedding like the Brits! And we can't wait to watch that sort of madness unfold. Plus, once there is a royal wedding, there is a royal honeymoon, a royal baby bump watch, maybe some gorgeous royal offspring....fabulous!
