Principles of and Procedures for Negotiating, Drafting and Managing Oil and Gas Contracts 2011

DUTY of CARE in OIL and GAS - CEOs Go Back to School

Stella Brunt
There has never been a more important time in the exploration, production and distribution of oil and gas. Governments and business have never been more intense in their contracts and negotiations as they are today. Oil and gas are both precious resources and yet have the potential for spectacular lawsuits as witnessed with the recent BP spill off the coast of Florida.

Oil and gas companies need guidance. There is an upcoming international conference to provide such guidance. Any company, government or individual involved in the handling of oil or gas will discover the absolute latest in legal matters, contract negotiations and the dual functions of management of projects and provision of a duty of care to all involved in this conference.

But leading figures in the oil and gas industry will not be lectured to. They will participate in many hands-on workshop situations under the expert guidance of top-ranking professionals. All participants will be given practical tools to assist in their contract negotiations when they return home.

Four days of sessions from May 9-12, 2001 in Johannesburg, South Africa where expert trainers will provide detailed coverage on the acronym TEFCEL. It stands for Technical, Economic, Financial, Commercial, Contractual, Environmental and Legal. Sounds a mouthful but each component is vital in today's trillion dollar oil and gas industry.

How should underdeveloped countries be approached regarding new resources on their soil or under their coastline? What wording in the contracts will cover the financial arrangements, the safekeeping of the environment and the proper legal ramifications? These questions and more will be answered in South Africa in May.
