Prison vs. Jail
Have you been charged with a crime and are not sure whether jail or prison is in your near future? You must first understand the difference between prison and jail. They clearly are not the same. There are some things you must first understand about the difference between both to determine which one you may serve time in.
In some cases you may not have to serve time behind bars in either facility. Why? A judge or jury may sentence to you community service, probation or time served. It depends on your criminal history and the crime or crimes you have been charged with.
Jail - Inmates with minor charges, such as misdemeanors, are held here. Some felons are held here too. A jail facility is run by the county or city. Jail inmates are not incarcerated as long as prison inmates.
Prison - Inmates who have felonies are the ones to serve their time in prison. Prison inmates have more freedom locked up than inmates in jail. State officials administer the control of a prison and the inmates. Prisoners are housed for much longer sentences, such as death row and lifers.
Neither prison nor jail time is for anyone. It is not the place to be. Mistakes happen and you must pay for them, no matter what the consequences may be. Life is what you make of it. If you choose to do wrong and get caught, you will be in one of these dreadful places. Believe me, it isn't something you want or need in your life.
Inmates are not the only ones to suffer behind bars. Family, friends and children suffer greatly along with them. Loved ones serve time too. They do not deserve to suffer for your life of crime. It isn't right. A life of crime isn't the answer. For some inmates, this is the only life they know. It is a hard cycle to break once it has begun. Time behind bars isn't easy to handle, nor is it pleasant. Crime continues behind those locked doors.
You cannot change those who do not want to change. Change doesn't come easy for anyone, especially to those who refuse it. Crime rates will continue to rise for those who enjoy or only know this lifestyle. Change happens. Crime can take a step back if we all put the effort in. It can be done.
