For the last year, the Investigation Discovery Channel has been in the process of filming a new documentary series, set to air in February on the Discovery ID network, about Prison Wives. It is the tale no one has told. It is the story no one would touch. Until now.
"This captivating series introduces audiences to women who have fallen in love with and married a prisoner behind bars. PRISON WIVES http://corporate.discovery.com/discovery-news/investigation-discoverys-2009-10-upfront-programmi/)examines the compassion and selflessness behind these stories of love, however unexpected. These unconventional families provide audiences a look inside prison life and what keeps these relationships together, for better or worse, richer or poorer." (
The wives of inmates are classified as having low self esteem or as being inmate groupies. As this series will show, that is just not the case.
The documentary series, entitled "Prison Wives", includes 13 couples. 12 women and one man, all married to someone who is incarcerated. As the stories unfold, you find that these couples are just like you. They have the same problems, the same issues, the same love that you do. However, when it comes right down to it, they don't take anything for granted; they have to work a little harder, and are probably closer that you could ever imagine a couple being. You may believe these women and one man are weak willed, but they are stronger than you could ever imagine. (www.prisonwivesid.com)
I, myself, am one of these wives.
We all have names. We all have faces. We all have stories; just like you. We laugh; we cry. We love; we hurt. We struggle; we succeed.
In America, there are over 2 million people currently incarcerated. That is approximately 1/5 of the entire population of the United States. It is startling to think that the United States has 5% of the world's population, but over 23% of the world's incarcerated. We have the highest number of our population incarcerated out of the entire world. China is at a close second, with approximately 1.5 million, yet they have four times the population we do. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incarceration_in_the_United_States)
All of these incarcerated individuals have families. They have kids. They have mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers. They have wives and husbands. These families, however, are the unspoken pariah of society.
We are not talking about guilt or innocence. We are talking about justice. We are not talking about right or wrong. We are talking about real life and real love.
So what are the answers to the questions above? Tune in to find out.

Post a Commentwith a man for 11yrs now in prison i dont no what to feel or what to do stillin love with him keeps me waiting.
It could have been titled a lot of things.
It could have been titled, "Why Convicts Make Poor Marriage Partners".
To All Whom it May Concern......When i saw the show i was truly in awe. My now ex-husband was incarcerated in Hamilton Correctional Facility in Jasper Florida for 7yrs. I traveled faithfully from Georgia every month, supplied monies and made calls to the Warden and judicial system on his behalf. I was a FAITHFUL, COMMITTED WIFE.........When he was released on March 9, 2009 my ENTIRE LIFE CHANGED. Unfortunately the marriage has ended do to the PRISON TALK that i for sooooo long believed and look forward to the day of his release. He got out the Florida Department of Corrections and decided I wasnt what he needed or desired anymore. What a painful chapter in my Life. Ladies please if u read or hear anything else..............KNOW AND LOVE YOURSELF FIRST. Let me correct that Love God first then yourself. Real men handle there business you dont have to handle it for them. Take it from a WOMAN who knows............
Forever Committed to God...........
It sounds interesting. I'm a prisonwife as well my husband is two years on a 9 year sentence. I'll have to watch the show.
We do a blog toether to show our expeirence and how our marriage works it is at prisonmarriage.blogspot.com
Georgia I am so happy for you both. I will be watching the show and I will visit the page you suggested. I'm so hoping this turns out to be an honest look at how difficult the systems makes it for families. I know we have a need for Prisons, I've just always felt it would be nice it we had Prisons that aided rather than harmed.
I am one of the wives in this show. My husband was released during the filming and he has been home for 4 months now. To be honest I have never been happier. We hope that you will watch the show and check out our website. www.prisonwivesid.com
It will be interesting to see how this is handled. Having been a prison wife (myself a correctional officer who met him while he was incarcerated) married and was a prison wife 17 years 8 months before he came home. Three more later I was left for a much younger woman. I'll tune in (if for no other reason than) to see how I contributed to where I am now. Still legally married but alone.
sounds interesting
