Report all threats, attacks or blackmails...even if you are afraid to. Criminals rely upon intimidation tactics to get the job done and keep it done. Rather than fighting this battle all on your own, make sure that as many people as possible know about it. If something should happen to you and nobody knows that you were threatened or harmed, then they will not know where to look. Make sure justice is done in the end. File a police report, tell at least two or three neighbors, tell all of your friends, and at least a couple of family members.
Invest in a little self protection. Your man should not be the only one who is tough. Invest in some self defense classes, an unregistered gun or two, learn how to fight, and learn how to shoot. You may never even use these tools, but you will feel a lot safer if you have them available. Park only in well-lit areas close to the store or business, if you are going somewhere for the first time or in a bad part of town take someone with you, and keep in regular contact with the people around you. Invite friends over for regular visits, parties and dinners so that any potential threat knows that you have a community surrounding you.
Also, invest in some self defense by controlling your tongue. Women who lose their tempers easily, try to play the force and power game, are in your face, and essentially emasculate the men around them are some of the most likely to be raped. Do not allow your tongue and your temper to dominate a situation, behave with class and decorum, and walk confidently and tall so that you do not give off the appearance of being an easy victim.
Create a force field of safety around you. Now that you have taken a little offensive action, go ahead with some defensive action. Keep your home and yard clean, tidy and well-organized. This will help in identifying any intruders because you will notice differences in the condition of your property and belongings. Keep your number unlisted so that you are aware of how close your attacker may be if they call. Unless they spend money on tracking you down, it could very well be someone you know if they are calling your unlisted number. Accept escorts to and from events, functions and even the store if you are scared enough. Have your local police station on speed dial, call friends every day and do not announce your whereabouts or private contact or personal information on social networking sites.
It is easy to get scared and be intimidated by others when your man has hurt victims. You may not feel like the police will come to help considering the circumstances, or that other people won't care as much because you should be tough enough to handle any situation. This is not true. Do not psych yourself out by thinking of the subjective opinions of others. Take an active role in keeping yourself safe.
