Private Investigators: Tips with Free Consultation

Kari Leigh
Private Investigators are hired for various things. They can help with missing persons, identity theft, process service, workers compensation, child custody, divorce, domestic relations, and the list goes on. The prices range because it all depends on what case the investigator is being hired for as to how much it might cost a person.

When informants or snitches might be used with investigations then there might be a "pay-off" considered so information can be gathered for the case. The cost of one case involves around rates, fees, taxes, plus prices. A person should always get a quote of how much their case might be. Usually when the quote is handed out that includes all of the expenses that are common with the case. Another thing that is included in the quote might be expenses that could be unanticipated and most round up the number around 5-10 percent when giving a quote. After a quote is provided if the person is not able to afford it they can talk with the investigator and see if they can work something out. Most places allow credit cards and checks.

A lot of places also offer free consultation when getting a quote and it is recommended that a person tries finding a company that allows that instead of having to pay for a quote. Some places are opened during the holidays but the cost might be more. Usually consultation should only take around 30 minutes depending on the type of case. They will usually ask questions so they can form some kind of plan to take action right away. During consultation the person needing to hire an investigator should ask any questions before signing any papers or paying them up front. Writing down information and questions before talking to anyone might help during the consultation. Some clients get afraid or nervous during this part because of having to provide the information and that is why it is a very good idea to write things down beforehand and when they are answering then the answers should be also be written down.

Information provided to the investigators should always be truthful. If it is not then it might hold up the case. Giving really accurate information can help by having a higher chance of success. The more information provided then the more leads they'll have to go on plus it can get the case done at a faster pace.
