"Private Practice" Another Fall TV Future Failure
Another Series that Looks like It's Going to Go Right Off the Radar
Kate Walsh, Addison , is now working with old friends from medical school. They include her "best friend" Naomi married to Sam Bennet both doctors in this medical practice consisting of regular and alternative medicine. The cast includes Tim Daly, Addison's next love interest. A Pediatrician Paul Adelstein, Amy Brenneman, a psychiatrist and Taye Diggs . The pediatrician, Dr. Cooper Friedman surfs the internet for dates. The psychiatrist is fresh off a break up, Naomi and Sam Bennet are recently divorced. Daly practices acupuncture.
Daly and Walsh have already been smooching, very unprofessional.
As usual, everyone is extremely attractive. No ugly people work in hospitals when Hollywood has a say in casting. Have you looked around your local hospital lately? It doesn't look like Rodeo Drive. What would be wrong or less interesting about having ordinary people, people with some character, ordinary everyday people cast in these parts? I would definitely find that more interesting.
This new series also offers a new Addison, she is no longer a strong, brilliant gynecologist she is now a wimpy, simpy, flirty, prancing gal who acts like a silly teen ager. Not very attractive as a role model and not very realistic. Realism has basically disappeared from many of these series. Women are bionic (Bionic Woman), people die and are alive again in Pushing Daisies and anything and everything goes on in a hospital scenario (House) and now this series.
Amy Brenneman (psychiatrist) has a department store sealed off for an OCD patient while the woman counts floor tiles. When is the last time you saw a shrink on their hands and knees in a department store unless they dropped their diamond earring or cell phone? Friedman the pediatrician happens by this scene as well. Don't these doctors have office hours with patients backed up due to overbooking?
I come from a long line of physicians, none of them had stories like this to tell. Granted a lot went on in hospitals but these hospital based series like The Practice, Grey's Anatomy and House have gone right off the deep end. These people are bedding one another down like rabbits in heat, they show up in patients homes, do difficult procedures on the spur of the moment in an office with none of the monitoring equipment or staff that would normally be there to assist and in almost every situation lives are saved after quite a bit of drama.
I don't think Private Practice stands a chance. It would be better joining daytime soaps.
In the Addison, save a baby, perform a Caesarean scene the newborn baby is carried out of the office in the Grandfather's arms. Where are the Paramedics? Where are the ambulances, why aren't they there? I watch these things and my jaw drops. Don't the writers consult anyone familiar with the medical field or is this just considered artistic license?
I won't be watching this series again, or House or Grey's Anatomy. After awhile it all becomes just to offensive to my intelligence to expect me to accept all these idiotic situations. I can't imagine why the writers don't feel that the stories would hold up without the indulgent stretches into bizarre, unrealistic versions of what staff and patients experience in a hospital.
