Perriello's ungainly admission-in all likelihood a complete accident and not something he'd willingly concede to, especially on tape of all places-is particularly self-damning and reflects even more poorly than usual on the Democrat Party because of the country's overwhelming opposition and sensitivity to deficit-raising pieces of legislation like Obamacare. For all intents and purposes, Perriello may as well have said, "Hahahahaha...we in Congress just loooove screwing you over, American people!" and then ended his admission with a more maniacal laugh along the lines of the Joker! Coincidentally-or, perhaps, interestingly-Perriello is one of the very troubled House Democrats whom The Hill pegs as "more vulnerable" in his reelection chances in the fall. I suppose this accidentally too-candid moment was Perriello's way of making himself look like he's really "talking straight" with his constituents, but it just sounds oh-so-bad anyway. And in politics, where perception is basically everything, that's not a favorable place to be if you're looking for reelection.
We all know Congress is a relentless thief of the American taxpayer's hard-earned money, and it's been nowhere near as glaring as it's ever been than the last year with Obama's spend-till-you-go-blue-in-the-face solution for everything. Whether the debacle known as TARP (Necessary? Debatable at best), the absolute failure of epic proportions that sent the unemployment rate skyrocketing into the double digits called the "Stimulus" bill, or the latest train wreck passed off as legislation that Obama's been championing, health care "reform," pretty much every major economic policy of Obama's can be counted as stealing!
Perriello also confessed to the innate nature of congressmen to have absolutely no self-control when it comes to wasteful and excessive spending, hence his belief that only with laws specifically banning such practices can congressional spending be brought under control. Using the idiom of "raiding the cookie jar," he insisted that the only way for Americans to see a fiscally responsible Congress that actually followed through on balanced budgets and pay-as-you-go promises was to ensure that legislation actually mandated them to do so.
Yesterday, Perriello, and keep in mind his chances of reelection are so perilous that he was listed as one of the 12 most vulnerable House Democrats, made a big show to his constituents by voting against the Democrat leadership's procedure to use the Slaughter rule to sneakily get Obamacare passed in the House. However, this is all just a huge façade-since no Democrats can really be trusted to vote their conscience, what with all their susceptibility to strong-arming and bribery-since Sean Hannity's latest tracking of congressmen who very well in the end may vote "yes" on Obamacare has Perriello listed as a "probable yes." My best guess is that Perriello does vote for Obamacare on Sunday and then subsequently gets tossed on his fanny when Virginia 5th district voters fire him in November. So good riddance to bad rubbish!

Post a CommentHistorically, decreases in taxes have made revenue go UP, not down. To put it simply, the more money you can make, the more inclined you are to spend it and put it back into the economy. The higher your taxes are, the more inclined one is to hoard as much of your pay as possible. The same principle applies for businesses. The higher the taxes, the more it costs to do business and the less likely they'll be able to offer benefits... not to mention the higher the finals cost of the products and services they offer. The lower their taxes, the more they can afford to pay you, and the cheaper they're products/services are.
Amen John. I agree, healthcare should not be sothing for only the rich! Right now, those are the only ones who can afford it and if Republicans had their way, healthcare would not be the only thin. Republicans are notorious for making the american public with blinders on think they really want to do the good for the people. when really it's about keeping control over the people and their money!
I hope Obama's health reform package becomes public law. The impressive victory over John McCain created the mandate for Obama's health reform. Personally, I feel that health care should not be a privilege for those who can afford health insurance. Ironically, the Republicans criticized the pay-as-you-go components of the current health reform bill. Our great nation is headed for disaster. We will never lower the national debt as long as we reduce government income via tax incentives, tax cuts and government programs. We need to wake up and find ways to increase government income, not lower it. As long as the people are opposed any new taxes, there is no hope for the pay-as-you-go rule.
Your stuff is so intriguing. Love to read it. Elle
Boot them all...In Washington, experience only breeds corruption. Citizenry should be looking for people of honor and integrity to fill the ballots with, and the search should be going on now.
Marc nice article - I agree with Judy, they all need to be kicked out.
The Washington crowd is going to do what they please, they don't care if it's honest on not. I say boot them all out and start over!!
The majority of americans do NOT favor Obamacare, yet our representatives in Washington will vote it in. How does this happen in a democracy? Answer is the same as Congress stealing from Americans.
All this is really news to me, as we don't get all these details in India.
a democrat ( a modern non blue dog ) admitting to stealing from the people of america? This is about a suprising as the average college student liking pizza and beer good article
