Pro Football Preview 2007-08 Season: NFC North

Bruce Bostwick
The NFC North is going to have a division with a challenge coming along the way. The defending NFC Champion Chicago Bears are set to be challenged big time for not just the division crown, but also the NFC championship. There are 3 other teams but only one looks to be the best built and plays like a well-oiled machine and that's the Chicago Bears. Without further or due, here are the projections for the upcoming season.

Chicago Bears

The team had the best record in the NFC conference and was the #1 seed. They went all the way to the Super Bowl but came up short against Indianapolis. They haven't won a Super Bowl since 1985. Chicago has a good football team so far and if they don't break the team apart, they will continue to play good. The team had one weapon and it was the defense that really kept the team in there no matter what. Of course, having good special teams really made the difference and got them far, the only piece lacking was the offense with the Quarterback wasn't getting the job done. However, the Bears are still going to be the team to beat in the NFC North and will claim the division in back to back seasons.

Projected Finish: 1st

Green Bay Packers

Will Favre continue to play or retire was the question. He had made up his mind and is going to play again for another season. He has been on a roll as far as playing every game in his career with the Packers without being taken out due to injury, personal reason, or an off the field incident. He only has one Super Bowl ring with the team and it looks to be it. He is going to the Hall of Fame as a Packer and also the Cal Ripken of football starting every Packer game since 1992. While the team just .500, they missed the playoffs just barley but will have to be better than .500 to even come close to the playoffs this season. They will finish no better than 2nd since the Bears have that division. They did have a late season surge and won the last 4 games. If they can show that and do better, they will be a playoff bound team.

Projected Finish: 2nd

Minnesota Vikings

Culpepper isn't with this team obviously and neither is Randy Moss. So it's more or less a new beginning for this franchise so only time will truly tell what the team's direction is. They have been rather up and down this decade and have never won the Super Bowl in franchise history. Mostly new Quarterbacks have been put on the team so it is a question of getting them off the ground and trying to find a new identity. They finished below .500 but could stay that way. There aren't any expectations this season for this team but they will finish above the Lions in the NFC North.

Projected Finish: 3rd

Detroit Lions

Where to begin with this team is that they have been miserable. Very few times they ever come close to actually finishing .500 or higher. There is no hope for this team at this moment since there is no team chemistry. What's the most important part about being a team? Well, being able to play as a team. If the chemistry isn't there, then this will go nowhere. They've been a joke in this decade and will probably just finish dead last again. It doesn't matter who the Quarterback is for the team. They just don't seem to have that ability to play as a unit. If they actually figure it out, it would be a sense of accomplishment.

Projected Finish: 4th

That is it for the NFC North. The division doesn't have a difference in standings from last season. It is true that anything can happen in the NFL with each new season coming closer but some divisions are just pretty simple to figure out just based off how the team played last season and of course what happens during the off-season. Coming up next will be the NFC South, then the East, the West, NFC team to go to the Super Bowl, then finally the Super Bowl picked based on all these predictions.
