Before joining the WWF, Duggan was part of Mid South Wrestling where he feuded with another wrestler that used the name Hacksaw.
Hacksaw Butch Reed and Duggan had some classic matches trying to decide who was the better Hacksaw.
Duggan went on to feud with Kamala the Ugandan Giant who was part of the Skandor Akbar clan.
During this time in his career, Mid South Wrestling began paying visits to my area, and at the ripe old age of 16, I had the chance to see Duggan and others.
On March 15, 1986 Duggan was part of a wrestling card that came to Blackwell, Oklahoma and wrestled at the Middle School.
This was my first opportunity to see Hacksaw Jim Duggan and I was lucky enough to get is autograph.
And guess how much I paid for a ticket, that's right $10.
For $10 in 1986, wrestling fans were treated to the likes of Duggan, Dick Slater, Buzz Sawyer, Terry Taylor, and the Sheepherders.
At the beginning of the event, Duggan was presented a 2/4. Unfortunately my memory is fuzzy and photography skills were still developing so I'm not sure who presented it but I think it was members of the Blackwell community.
Later in the evening, the featured match was Duggan and tag team partner Terry Taylor vs. Dick Slater and Mad Dog Buzz Sawyer.
Mad Dog and Slater entered the ring first, Slater decked out in his flashy orange robe that featured his name on the back.
Duggan and Taylor entered the ring and Duggan did his stomp that I bet die hard Mid South fans remember.
The match featured the usual body slams, leap frogs and two on two action both inside and outside the ring.
Based on my photos I believe Duggan and Taylor gained the victory much to the fans delight.
Much to my delight Mid South returned to my area on June 23 and this time Hacksaw Duggan was in Ponca City to take on Kamala at the Hutchins Memorial.
Kamala was definitely a huge man with huge feet.
The match featured the usual battle between the two wrestlers and a high moment for me, as during one of Duggans high moments in the match, he came to ringside where I was sitting, as just as clicked my camera he gave the thumbs up right at my lens.
Duggan was able to body slam the huge giant only to suffer a cheap shot from Kamala's manager Skandor Akbar. My photo collection shows Duggan giving Akbar the business.
Unfortunately I'm not sure who if anyone was declared a winner.
In 1987 Duggan joined the WWF and I never saw him wrestle in person again.
