Pro Wrestling Steps into a Time Warp

I've been a pro wrestler now for 10 years. I've seen the best and worst over the years. People have come and gone, promotions have folded. But yet, it seems like we've stepped into that time machine I mentioned a few weeks ago.

Think back to 1997 for those of you who have been following long enough. For you younger kids who have no idea what you're about to get into here, feel free to try to keep up and don't be afraid to ask questions if you get confused.

I'm not going to flash to a specific point of 1997, but rather a cumulative overview of how things were, and compare them to some 13 years later. We had two promotions, the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, and World Championship Wrestling (WCW). In the WWF, we had Bret Hart with a leg injury, DX, and at one point The Undertaker was champion. In WCW, you saw Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, the nWo, and things were run by Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo.

Now we hit the fast forward button to 2010. The WWF has been repackaged to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWF...panda-pushing idiots...and WCW was bought out by Vince McMahon.

TNA Wrestling, which was started in 2002 by Jeff Jarrett (who spent time in both WWF and WCW back in the 90s), now has Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Sean "X-Pac" Waltman. Oh yea...did I mention that TNA is now run by Hogan, Eric Bischoff...and Vince Russo is on the booking team?

And TNA made the announcement on Monday that beginning March 8, they will go head to head on Monday nights with WWE and Monday Night Raw.

So here we go with the Monday Night Wars all over again. Let's just hope that Bischoff and Russo have learned from their mistakes, and can make this worthwhile. On the other hand, let's hope WWE ends this ridiculous weekly guest host gimmick and get back to business. The only problem with this, is if history repeats itself...we could all be in for a very bumpy ride.

Don't get me wrong, the guest host idea was interesting when it first started. But if they're going to continue this utter nonsense, they need to bring in people who actually know something about the business or the people they work with. Bringing in people who have never watched the product.

TNA on the other hand, as I mentioned before, needs to separate Hogan and Bischoff. They're power hungry, and they need to stop worrying about tearing WWE apart. And for crying out loud, stop with the WWE bashing remarks every week on iMPACT! They were funny the first couple of weeks. But it's the same routine EVERY SINGLE WEEK. Enough, already! Put your focus on what brought TNA to the dance. The younger guys, the in-ring action. TNA needs to go back to where they were in 2004-2005. At that particular point in time, they could've went head to head with Raw and buried them. Looking at it now, they're bury themselves before its all said and done.

Hopefully both sides will use the best interest possible, and this round of the Monday Night Wars will be tolerable. It won't come close to 1996, because the timing was right and the guys were in the right place at the right time. Everything fell into place. But this can be right if both sides try. We'll see what happens.
