Proactiv, the Skincare with a Solution

A Skincare Review

Sarah Afshar
Proactiv 3-step skincare system is a skincare system created by Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields to fight acne, as well as, change acne prone skin to acne free skin. The system includes three Proactiv products that work together to create amazing skin. Separated by steps, these products include: Step 1 - Revitalizing Cleanser, Step 2 - Revitalizing Toner, and Step 3 - Repairing Treatment.

In early 2010, I suffered from acne. Although it was stress related, it still managed to exist. If you have suffered from acne breakouts, you can get an idea of how depressing it can be. I was surfing the television trying to find something good on TV, when I came across QVC. They were selling the Proactiv products. After contemplating and debating whether or not to try Proactiv, I decided to cave in and purchase the two month supply for $41.

The two month supply includes about all of the products you will get in the 30 day supply, except the ounces are much bigger in ounce and in content. Plus, as a bonus you have the ability to try a 2.5 oz. Refining Mask.

PROS

The Revitalizing Cleanser (or Step 1) is more like a paste, rather than a cream. It goes on as a cream, but develops into a paste. It is more of an exfoliate rather than a cleanser, however; it possesses ingredients that are found in acne fighting skincare systems. I like this product because despite being relatively harsh, you can feel it work instantaneously and the more you use it, the more prone your skin becomes to using it. This product (or step) alone works phenomenal in clearing up acne breakouts. It is recommended that you use on a dime size amount and massage it into damp skin. Once you have rinsed off Step 1, you want to use Step 2.

The Revitalizing Toner (or Step 2) is a great toner. Although it does not possess natural ingredients, one thing you will love about this fantastic addition to Proactiv is that it contains natural ingredients such as Rose Bud Extract, Aloe Vera, and Chamomile Extract. I like this toner because it is not harsh and it still manages to control the skin's natural hydration. Using a cotton ball, you want to apply a small amount of toning product on your skin. It is recommended that you do not limit this product, as you should apply Step 2 in the morning and in the nighttime. When you continue with the Proactiv regime, you want to use Step 3.

The Repairing Treatment (or Step 3) is like a light medicated cream. I have to admit, this is one of my favorite acne treatments I have ever used. It does not dry out the skin. On a rather important note, Dimethicone, as well as, Cyclomethicone are common ingredients that are used in priming products. If you look at your favorite foundation primer, more than likely, you will see these ingredients listed. Maybe not together, but one of them will be listed. If you decide to cleanse your face using Step 1, Step 2, followed by Step 3, you can actually apply your makeup on top and Step 3 not only works as an acne fighter, it works as a primer. Cyclomethicone is non comedogenic, so it will not clog pores, as well as, cause acne. It allows skin to be moisturized and despite using chemicals that are notorious for drying skin out, Proactiv's Step 3 actually includes an array of ingredients that balance the skin, so your skin will become normalized. It is recommended that you only use a thin layer of Step 3 on dry, clean skin.

If you are an individual that prefers to purchase products that emphasize on domestic manufacturing, you will love Proactiv simply because their product is created and made in the United States.

CONS

Despite the repairing lotion being an amazing product, if you are someone with sensitive skin or skin that tends to suffer from allergic reactions, you may not find this particular product appealing. Step 3 includes an array of ingredients such as dimethicone and if you are allergic to this, you may not find this product likable.

Proactiv is a system combined that works together to create wonderful skin. If you use Step 1, without using Step 2 or Step 3 or you were to use just Step 3, but do not use Step 2 or Step 3 or you were to use only Step 1 and Step 3, but not Step 2, this product is not going to work properly.

If you are one who only purchases organic or natural cosmetics, you are not going to like Proactiv.

RATING - 93%

Proactiv varies upon system. You can try the product for 30 days (or 1 month) for just $19.95. If you decide you like it, you can purchase a 2 or 3 month supply for a little more. This product can change a life in a matter of weeks, let alone days. Proactiv is available on the official website, your nearest Proactiv retailer, or your nearest Proactiv store/kiosk. Overall, I believe the strengths of this product far exceed the weaknesses. Would I recommend this product? Yes. Would I use it again? Most definitely.
