Proactiv Solution-Product Review

I have had severe acne most of my life. It is hard to remember but I believe I first started having issues when I was about 13. I am now 32 and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't have to worry about the next "break out". I have tried many over the counter products only to be disappointed each time. Somewhere I had even read that onions were good for clearing acne. Well what do I do? I cut some up onions and place them directly on my face. Desperation can make people do goofy things. I wouldn't suggest anyone using onions directly on their face. The smell alone takes ages to go away!

A good friend of mine knew how bad I was feeling about my skin. She offered to buy me Proactiv Solution for my birthday. She also knew that it would be unlikely that I would spend money on myself. I agreed and have been now using it for the past two years. I did recently stop using Proactiv. This was not due to dissatisfaction of the product. I just needed to cut costs.

Their three step system consists of:

1. Renewing Cleanser.
You use this product first to cleanse your face of dirt and oil. The cleanser has tiny grains in it to exfoliate the dead skin off of your face. Product is rinsed off.
Active Ingredient is Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%

2. Revitalizing Toner
This product is used to remove remaining dead skin cells and to tighten pores. You use a cotton ball to apply it to your face. It is not washed off.

3. Repairing Lotion
This is used last and helps clear any current break outs and prevents new blemishes. This is also not rinsed off.
Active Ingredient is Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%

This system costs 39.95, not including shipping charges. It would for me typically last about 1-2 months.

I used the product line every morning and every evening before bed. I have to say that I did show improvement within 2 weeks of starting the product. I still had breakouts but it was not as bad as it had been before. I did find that it could slightly irritate my skin at times specially in the beginning of use. I believe this was because I started using it twice a day right away instead of once daily. They suggest you start off at one application daily and gradually move to twice daily. I never found that my skin completely cleared up. This could be because my acne problems are more severe then normal.

I would have to give Proactiv Solution a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. I think most people would find this product very helpful.

Pros-Does help clear up your skin in most cases.

Cons-Product is expensive (in my opinion).
-Skin may become overly dry in parts due to the Benzoyl Peroxide.

They sell many other skin related products that can be used with the 3 step system above. I had wanted to include them in my daily regimen but was unable to afford them. I may have found the system to have better results if I had been able to afford more.
