Problems will arise this Daylight Savings Time when it ends at 2:00 am on Sunday November 6, 2011. If you are not a die hard Daylight Savings fanatic you probably will run across absent minded clock setting issues during the first Sunday of November. Let's explore some basic Daylight Savings information.
It was 1916 when Daylight Savings Time, otherwise known as DST, was designed to conserve energy. Germany was behind the first time change. The US began using Daylight Savings Time two years later in 1918. For the last 93 years the US has put up with the abrupt shift of day and night not once a year but twice. Canada has to deal with time change as well.
Remember, remember the 6th of November!
When that special time comes for those running off time they reset their clocks before it is too late. What happens when you wait and do not set your clocks back an hour before heading to bed during a work night? Let's ask the boss. Don't decline to leave a reminder. Your job (or duties) could depend on it!
What has Daylight Savings Time done for Halloween? Pushed up Trick-or-Treat time. Since 2007 Daylight Savings Time began on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday in November. Prior to 2007, stemming back to 1987, Daylight Savings Time began on the first Sunday in April and the last Sunday in October.
Meaning, five years ago a Trick-or-Treat experience began at a later time on Halloween night (at least since 1987). Four years ago (2007) the fall of night experience complied with the then new Daylight Savings Time change as the end of Daylight Savings Time was no longer being applied during the last Sunday of October. It changed over to the first Sunday of November. In 2011 that, again, will be November 6th.
Daylight Savings Time Settings Fall Back
Clocks, watches, computers, phones (including cell), microwaves, ovens, car clocks, some alarm systems, and other locations displaying or running on time(r) requiring manual reset should be set back one hour. For instance, when the clock reads 2 am on November 6, 2011 set it to 1:00 am. Fall back.
Daylights Savings Time, we have a problem!
Clocks usually are easy to reset. If you do not know how to simply look on the bottom, sides, top, or back of the clock for buttons or knobs. Most likely you will find the word "set" somewhere. In addition, it is wise to change the batteries on clocks during Daylight Savings Time.
Watches may require assistance by a watch repair shop in order to reset the time back one hour. Check your local listings for a watch shop that best fits your time. Be on the look out for any Daylight Savings Time deals and watch offers. Most watches can be reset independently without watch shop assistance.
Computers do come with the technology in picking up on Daylight Savings Time without you doing a thing. Although, not all the time. Check your computer's time settings in case you need to change the time.
iPhone, uPhone, we all scream at iPhones! One can only hope the Daylight Savings exit does not go as wrong as the 2011 Daylight Savings entry in March when it comes to your Apple's iPhone. Daylight Savings Time did not kick in during March as anticipated.
Phones, including cells, may require changing the time manually. A time application, or time setting, should have instructions within a help guide on the phone or inside of an instruction guide. If you have no idea how to reset the time on your phone try to Google the issue by using the keywords of the phone's model and brief problem. You'll be surprised at what you'll find - an answer?
Microwaves, ovens, and car clocks work fairly simple. A menu guide on the clock itself (or next to) should breeze you through the time altering process. This is the moment one can think it's so easy a caveman can do it. But, again, if there is no guide to assist then Google the model and brief issue description to seek out how to change the time.
Alarm systems deserve full attention. To change the time on the alarm system follow the guide or call the alarm system service center for assistance on changing the time. Most alarm systems are changed internally after being filtered by the base office.
Nobody knows the Daylight Savings problems I've seen!
Those who left work in the evening before the sun went down will now have the joys of leaving after the sun goes down. Don't forget those flashlights for safety measures. But the early birds get first sight when day blossoms out of night.
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?
Daylight Savings dinner around 7 pm may have been a sundown experience since March but following November 6th what used to be 7 pm will now be 6 pm. Dark sooner due to falling back an hour.
Breakfast at 6 am on the other hand will be on the far edge of nighttime either way. But eat at 7 am after November and enjoy the preset of the sunrise. A human's feeding time is important to them whether timed, scheduled, or random. And with every time change comes feeding changes.
Infant feedings on schedules can be interfered with Daylight Savings Time. Sure, babies love to feed. They don't mind being fed one hour early. However, some infants can become sick (or spit up more than usual) when overfeeding. To avoid projectile spit up try not to overfeed. Most find no issues with the time change and baby feedings. How about sleep?
Fall back means autumn falls back an hour, both night and day. What used to be 9 pm would be 8. What used to be 7 pm would be 6. What used to be 5 pm would be 4. An extra hour of darkness can actually offer that extra hour of sleep. Darkness has proven to be a sleep simulator of sorts. In time the end of Daylight Savings marks the gift of extra sleep. All due to the early entry of nightfall. The downfall? Waking up to daylight too soon!
And on November 6th it is time. Time for literal change. So, remember, remember the 6th of November.
