Problems with Ebay

Shannon Frye
Ebay is a very popular website that people use to sell items and buy items. You can get good deals and you can get rid of extra items around your house. The fees are usually at least $1.00 per item with a picture. To sell vehicles on the site it costs about $50.00 which is rather high considering that it might not sell. The fees seem to be getting higher and there is a lot of competition. It's getting hard to sell items on ebay. You have to research everything and choose appropriate times.

I think that ebay should automatically place a gallery picture on each item. Most people uploading pictures what it to be displayed which only costs about .35 cents. If you forget to pick the gallery picture box your picture will not show up next to your ad. If you do not pick the right keywords people will not find your item and you must also make sure to put it in the right section.

Ebay is complicated enough to pay a bunch of fees for items that don't sell. People on ebay will fight you over $1.00 if they can. Shipping prices are also very expensive. To ship anything to your neighbors house will cost you at least $10.00 even in an envelope that you bright to the shipping center.

People try to make a living off of ebay. Sometimes their items will sell and sometimes they wont. It's hard finding items to put on ebay once you run out of things to sell. Charging a shipping rate of $10.00 means you can't sell anything that is worth under $10.00 or you won't make any money. People have to pay the shipping prices and they won't buy an item with unreasonable shipping rates.

Ebay has also been sending a lot of messages to people over things that I wouldn't consider violating their terms. If you don't read through everything completely you will end up getting in trouble with ebay.

All in all I see people paying really high fees as well as final value fees for items that probably won't sell unless it's very cheap with cheap shipping. The odds of selling the items depend on the keywords and categories you choose. You can get hundreds of views without a single watch. You can not change the price under 12 hours of the auction ending. Most of the time people mean to change the ad before the time is up but they forget.

Ebay is a great place if you know what you are doing. It's an even better place to buy items and get a great deal.

I hate the upcoming feedback changes for eBay sellers. eBay sellers won't be able to leave negative feedback EVER starting in May 2008 but buyers will be able to leave feedback for them. So unfair.

I sell successfully on ebay - and have done for several years now.
I cannot see why you say shipping is expensive. Every trader sets their own shipping fees - it is then up to people to purchase or not. Customers know the shipping fees prior to bidding - if you are not happy - then dont bid!!!
Many customers think that the shipping price should be simply the cost of the stamps. What about the packaging? the time? My local post office is several miles from me - i have to pay car parking fees - petrol - yet more time. Yet I still charge, at the most, £1.50 for p/p to UK.
You should not tar us all with the same brush

For sellers, I think it's worth it. You can reach people around the world and it's incredibly low cost compared to running a store. Of course, you have to know what people are looking for; I agree it isn't as easy to sell as some may think :)

I fully agree with what you are saying. One hint in buying at Ebay is use the ask seller a question. As mentioned in this good artical Shipping fees why pay excessive fees. IF for example you were buying a book and the seller wants to charge you 10.00 for shipping ask the seller would he/she be consider sending the book by media mail which is under 5.00. How I Buy stuff of Ebay is to pay for an iteam like a pawn shop will pay if the new price is x amount of dollars I would only pay a quater of what it is worth retail.
