Recently, a man in Indiana had an oil well drilled in his own backyard. The well created a fuel cost savings for his family and produced profits from the sale of excess supply. This may work wonderfully if you happened to build your home on top of an oil field. If you don't live above a carbon source there may be another viable option. Researchers have discovered the answer in one of the oldest substances on earth, Algae. Yes, Algae may be the most promising source of new energy. Most likely it will grow not only in your own backyard, but almost anywhere on earth.
In the future, as is the case now, many consumers will be furiously typing search terms into their Internet Browsers in hopes that their searches will result in ideas for cheaper gas. Recent research breakthroughs have shown that certain forms of Algae, the kind that grows in a bucket of stale water, or an un-maintained swimming pool, can produce amazing amounts of oil per acre of land. This could be the answer to the consumers' dreams of saving on fuel cost.
One acre of the proper type of Algae is projected to produce between 5,000 and 20,000 gallons of oil. This is at least seven times higher than the production resulting from corn or sugar cane. The process will be fairly simple, involving first the growth of the algae, then the harvesting and processing. The oil can then be pressed, or squeezed, from the Algae by mechanical means which results in a very desirable bio-fuel with a large potential savings of fuel cost.
As if that benefit of using Algae is not by itself enough, the growth of the material can also produce ethanol gas as a by-product while growing. The Algae also will thrive on a feed supply of CO2. This is the perfect way to dispose of waste generated by sources such as coal power plants.
The next time you are tempted to add chlorine to your green pool water, or dump out the rainwater from objects around your yard, you may want to ask yourself if it would be better to encourage the Algae growth.
The earth may well be on its way to a natural and cleaner solution to the current oil=based economy. At the same time you may have the ability to produce your own energy while enjoying a large savings on fuel cost.
