(Product) RED: The Gift that Gives Twice

Liz Brown
This holiday season shoppers will have a unique opportunity to buy (Product) RED gifts in which up to 50% of profits will go to the Global Fund. This year, many name brand products such as GAP and Emporio Armani have teamed up with (RED) to create (Product) RED presenting shoppers with that "perfect gift", unique and stylish and gives twice. Not only is the shopper buying a gift, but for no extra cost to the shopper, the maker of the (Product) RED will donate a percentage of the profits to the Global Fund. Furthermore, many of the (Product) RED companies have created unique benefits and rewards specifically designed for their (Product) RED.

(RED)
In 2002, The Global Fund was formed to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria and bring awareness of this pandemic in Africa. In 2006, Bono and Bobby Shriver took the fight a step further. Bono and Bobby Shriver teamed up with brands such as GAP, Converse, American Express, Emporio Armani, Apple iPod, and Motorola to create unique products raising awareness of The Global Fund and bringing assistance to those most in need from this global pandemic. Over $10 million dollars has gone to prevention programs, orphans of AIDS, and the purchase of anti-retroviral therapies in countries such as Rwanda and Swaziland.

(Product) RED
American Express has created a unique credit card for (Product) RED in which 1% of the total spent will go to The Global Fund. (RED) cardholders are eligible for REDpass, the opportunity to win a chance of a lifetime experience such as a REDpass to the 2007 Tribeca film festival or a trip to Africa. Furthermore, the (RED) card gives special access to gigs, sporting events, and travel and shopping opportunities.

Motorola, a partner of The Global Fund, has created a (RED) MOTORAZR phone that comes loaded with exclusive ring tones, video casts, and wallpapers. Furthermore, Motorola's Studio RED gives unique purchasing opportunities and rewards to (RED) consumers.

GAP, Converse, and Emporio Armani have created a line of stylish (Product) RED wear, including shirts, watches, shoes, jeans, and much more. GAP will donate 50% of profits and Armani will donate 40% of profits to the Global Fund.

In October of 2006 Oprah and Bono unveiled the iPod nano (Product) RED. Apple is donating ten dollars to the Global Fund for each iPod nano (Product) RED purchased.

(RED) Sponsors include myspace.com and AIM. (RED) friends include The FADER, the Tripwire, YouTube, Good magazine, and NEED magazine. Expect to see commercials on MTV and VH1 this holiday season promoting (RED). Also, expect to see offers from Sprint for the new (RED) MOTORAZR phone and plan.

There are many ways to give this holiday season. Even if donating to the Global Fund is not your typical charity, (RED) has created unique opportunities that do not cost consumers any money outside of purchasing the (Product) RED.
