I had been using Hope in a jar for about a year when I ran out and started using Afterlife. First, I really loved Afterlife because of the scent. It has a delicious light almond smell that is comfortable and not offensive. I really love this kind of almond scent that is comfortable and calming, so I just fell so much in love with it.
But, there were some things that I wasn't so crazy about. I had been using Hope in a Jar and it just wasn't doing a great job for a harsh winter and I wanted something heavier for the winter and I thought that Afterlife would be perfect for it. It actually did the job. It moisturized my skin better than Hope in a Jar. It has that certain oiliness to it so that you can feel comfortable and not tight. But, it does leave the shine. I guess I didn't notice it so much since Hope in a Jar leaves me shiny too and I thought it was just my skin, but now that I tried the The Body Shop's Vitamin E cream, I know that it's not true. Now, anything that leaves my skin with a big shine or grease on my skin, I don't like so much anymore. That oil can cause breakouts and I did breakout badly.
Another thing that I liked about this is the texture. This goes on very light. Because it's not so thick, it just glides and I love the watery texture. I usually like thick, heavy texture in the winter because it's usually more moisturizing, but if it does the job, why not use a lighter texture that's easier to apply?
The Afterlife was overall an okay moisturizer. I recommend this skin to my friend who has a dry and lifeless skin and his skin literally glowed. I couldn't notice any of his dry spots anymore. The dry spots were gone. Also, it moisturized his skin enough so that he has a bit of a glow and healthy texture. But, he didn't like it. It caused breakouts for him too. I think the oil in Afterlife is causing a lot of breakouts and I don't recommend this to anyone who is breaking out because it's not going to get better as you use it, it's just going to keep breaking you out. But, the Afterlife is $45 for a 1.5 oz bottle. I admit that this will last you longer than other 1.5oz bottles because you only need a little bit at a time, but it's a bit expensive. There are a lot of other moisturizers that do a better job for a lot less. So, try it if you have dry skin and want to get rid of those dry spots because it does a good job of getting rid of them. But, remember that this can be greasy on your skin, cause breakouts, and is on the expensive side.
