Fitted diapers are different from pocket style or All in one diapers for the mere fact they require some sort of cover to be waterproof. Fitted diapers themselves have no built in water proof cover. They just like all in one diapers or pocket diapers are very absorbent and normally have a sewn in or snap in soaker inside the diaper.
When choosing a fitted diaper for our family, I went with recommendations from close friends that also cloth diaper their children. A lot of my friends recommended Bella Bottoms.
I went to the Bella Bottoms homepage and was surprised at the different styles of fitted diapers they had available. I decided to go with the most practical choice for us and buy a one size fitted diaper for my son. This way the diaper would grow with him as he grew into a toddler. The one size diapers came in many cute solids and also prints. The site also offered bamboo and terry fitted diapers to choose from. I had a hard time picking one for us. I decided on an adorable stripped print diaper in bold colors. The diaper I had chosen came with a snap in soaker. I ordered another snap in soaker to go along with the snap in soaker knowing my son was a heavy wetter and through recommendations of my friends.
Faith the owner was excellent to deal with. I can't say enough about her willingness to answer my questions and make sure I was getting a quality product.
Even with the extra doublers the price was lower then any other cloth diaper we have in our stash. The diaper with the price of the extra snap in soaker cost me only a little over ten dollars! It was a steal!
The diaper arrived to me in a short amount of time. The shipping was super fast and the packaging was great. I was surprised on how quickly it had gotten to me and I was excited to use it.
I put my son into the one size fitted diaper. I was surprised at the sizing. My son fit on the medium set of snaps with room to grow. The diaper would fit him a very long time. I used both snap in soakers with my son during the test trail. The soakers were made of a hemp like material with a fleece topper. The fleece was so soft against my son's tender eczema prone skin.
The diaper itself was made of 100% cotton knit , the inner had two snaps to snap in my soakers. The outside of the diaper had numerous snaps to make the sizing of the diaper fit your child perfectly. The diaper fit snuggly on my son but also had amazing stretch so he could run and move about comfortably.
After our test trail in the fitted one size diaper from Bella Bottoms I was a little disappointed. The diapers are a great price. They are beautiful and soft. BUT are not very absorbent. Even with the extra snap in soaker and a great waterproof cover over the diaper, my super soaker of a son soaked right through the fitted onto his jeans. He was drenched. The snaps on the diaper also seemed to bother my son around his hips. They must have been too tight because they dug into his sides leaving marks.
After the trail use of the diaper, I emailed Faith the owner. She was very prompt at emailing me back and answering my question about the diaper. I had told her it was not very absorbent enough for my son. She told me to wash the hemp soakers numerous times to increase the absorbency.
I followed her directions and washed the diaper and washed the hemp about 10 times before placing it back onto my son. The second trail went a lot better then the first. I made the snaps a little more loose around his waist and legs and I placed both soakers into the diaper again. The diaper fit so much better and even contained my son's messy runny poop. I was happy with that. Again the diaper was not very absorbent. We had a tiny wicking problem but not as bad as the time before.
I since then have been using our Bella Bottoms one size fitted with a doublers. The diaper works great with a doublers; we're using one Mother of Eden Stay Dry with the Bella Bottoms and my son hasn't had a leak. I even thought about ordering more fitteds for nighttime use to use with the doublers. For the price of Bella Bottoms it is most defiantly worth it.
Overall, Bella Bottoms fitted one size diapers are cheap and have a great fit on almost any shaped kid. They have numerous snaps to find just the perfect fit and the material is soft and stretchy to allow movement. Yet the diapers themselves are not too absorbent and you may need to use an extra doublers with them to get the full use out of the diapers. Not recommended for use alone with heavy wetters or overnight. But for cloth diapering parents on a budget with use of a doublers these diapers are a must have in your stash! If you take in the price of the diaper plus the price of the doubler, your still getting a major bargin.

Post a CommentHmm, I make Bella Bottoms and I can tell you right now that is NOT a Bella Bottoms diaper. As for the elastic, I switched to Lastin many years ago, so they will never wear out.
They're not a great price if they don't absorb! That sounds really crazy to me.
If you're looking for an affordable absorbent one-size, try MEOS (MotherEase OneSize). They last for years and are a terrific fit (+ trim!), affordable, absorbent, etc. No problems w/ elastics wearing out w/ meos.
Nicely written. I've also tried bellabottoms, and was a little disappointed. My diapers (the one-sized) have also lost their elasticity in less than 6 months. So, they're a great price, and with great customer service, but I've been disappointed overall. Thanks for sharing, Kari.
