Product Review: Bisquick Complete Mix, Buttermilk Biscuits

They Are Better Than I Hoped They Would Be!

Abby Greenhill
While wandering down the baking aisle in Publix a few weeks ago, I was searching for something different to make. As my eyes scanned toward the bottom shelf, I saw a package mix by Betty Crocker. It is called Bisquick Complete Mix, Buttermilk Biscuits. Anything made by Betty Crocker is good in my book, so I grabbed a package.

The 7.5 ounces package cost $1.09. Since I very seldom have milk in the house, I had to make sure that milk wasn't an ingredient I needed. No milk required, you just add one-half cup of water, and water I always have.

My husband and I were planning on roasting Prime Rib for New Year's Day and those Buttermilk Biscuits would be perfect. They are so simple, fast, light and delicious I think we will be having them on a regular basis.

The process is simple:

. Pre-heat the oven to 450 degrees.

. Empty the biscuit mix into a bowl.

. Add ½ cup of water.

. Mix until soft dough forms

. Prepare the baking sheet by using cooking spray or line your baking sheet with parchment paper.

. Drop the mixture by spoonfuls onto the prepared pan.

Note: If you desire to, you can roll out the dough and use a cookie cutter to cut out the biscuits. Take the easy way out, they taste just the same!

The package yields either six, 3 inch biscuits or eight, 2 ½ inch biscuits. Using the spoon method gives the biscuits some unusual shapes!

Bake for 8 to 11 minutes. Keep an eye on them.

My husband does not like what he refers to as 'crumby' biscuits, the type that turn to crumbs when you bit into them. He was afraid the Betty Crocker biscuits would be crumby. I was afraid they would be heavy or doughy. We were both wrong.

What a pleasant surprise when the biscuits came out perfect. They were light brown, they didn't turn to crumbs when bitten into, and they were very light. I had to try one with some jelly and it was as good as it gets!

If you are a biscuit lover, and don't feel like rolling out dough, this package mix is the answer. I plan to have a pantry full of Betty Crocker Bisquick Complete Mix, Buttermilk Biscuits. They are that good and my husband agrees!

Great review, Abby! I've got Bisquick but I don't think it says "Complete" on it. I'll have to try it.

I've never used this one. I do really like their Cheddar Garlic Biscuits though - they're just like the ones at Red Lobster!
