Product Packaging
The free sample arrived quickly and was in a standard small plastic tube which holds half an ounce (10 grams). It was enough for me to get about 6 or 7 uses out of the free sample.
The sample tube has a white background and near the top is a yellow square with the words "Burt's Bees" in red capital letters and "Natural Toothpaste" below their brand in silver lettering. Slightly below that is a picture of peppermint then the words "Fluoride Multicare Toothpaste." At the very bottom it reveals that it contains "plaque-fighting cranberry extract" and is "99.2% natural."
Flavor and Effectiveness
The toothpaste is a creamy white paste and has a standard peppermint flavor, as I would expect. It does not contain sparkles or colors or anything as some toothpastes do. It is not incredibly intense but it has just the right amount of flavor. The toothpaste did not foam up in my mouth as much as some toothpastes do, but it left my teeth feeling very clean and my breath was very fresh after using this product.
Although it left my mouth feeling clean and fresh it didn't leave a heavy flavor or minty scent in my mouth. My breath feels fresh for hours after using this toothpaste and my teeth feel incredibly smooth and clean.
Cranberry Extract
I know cranberries are good for my body, but I really never suspected they may help my teeth as well. According to Burt's Bees website, " recently, scientists discovered that cranberries contain powerful nutrients called Proanthocyanidins, also known as PACs. In nature, these nutrients help cranberries protect themselves from bacteria and other environmental stressors. Studies have shown that PACs inhibit oral bacteria from sticking to the surface of teeth, thereby helping prevent plaque formation before it starts." Because of this, using cranberry extract in a natural toothpaste almost seems like an obvious choice to me.
Other Ingredients Used
Peppermint extract is an ingredient used in this toothpaste to freshen breath and give the product a refreshing minty flavor. Xylitol is a natural sweetener derived from corn and is used to give the toothpaste a pleasant flavor. Xylitol is not known to promote tooth decay as some natural sweeteners are. Calcium sodium phosphosilicate is used to remove surface stains and help keep teeth strong. Silica is also used to help remove surface stains and whiten teeth.
This toothpaste also contains sodium monofluorophosphate (fluoride).
