In general, "Greek" yogurts have never been a real draw for me. In fact, I hadn't even bothered to look into another yogurt until I was in the grocery store this past weekend and found myself with an extra $5 to spare. So, I figured, 'why not?' and I picked up 3 different flavors of Chobani Greek yogurt to try: pomegranate, strawberry and French vanilla.
After trying 2 of the 3 flavors so far, you can rest assured that at next week's grocery store run, I'll be picking up several more of these.
At 140 calories (in strawberry and pomegranate flavors, other flavors may vary,) the Chobani yogurt was about 30-40 calories higher than my normal yogurt (which, for all intents and purposes, shall remain nameless.) That being said, that extra 30-40 calories packs a lot in, and as another woman on a diet, this yogurt is perfect.
'But why?' you may ask? Well, once I finally took a minute to read Chobani's label, I was in shock. It has more than (yes, more than) twice the protein of my regular yogurt. After having a Chobani yogurt for breakfast, I was able to make it through to lunch before I started feeling hungry again. Yup, no mid-morning hunger pains-so I saved calories by not needing a mid-morning snack.
More importantly, this particular brand of Greek yogurt does not have a weird after-taste. Nor does it have a chalky taste, either. The folks at Chobani did things right, because it's no fun eating healthy or being on a diet when you have to eat chalky, gritty or just-plain-gross (but still "healthy") yogurt. So, whether you're on a diet or you're trying to eat healthier, Chobani will get the job done.
Chobani is thicker and much creamier than other yogurts (including my ex-regular "thick" brand.) I'll be recommending it to my friends and to my family. To me, it's worth the extra price. Feeling full for the entire morning off a single yogurt is a huge plus in my book. Though it costs extra, it saves me from eating those extra mid-morning snack calories. Which of course, in turn, means that I won't necessarily need to buy any more mid-morning snacks. So really, the cost is justified in my book.
Other important info that you might find interesting is that Chobani is not only Kosher-certified, but it's also Gluten free. It's also safe for anyone who has a corn, nut or soy allergy, according to Chobani's website.
