Product Review: Cordless Swivel Sweeper

As Seen on TV

Alyce Rocco
The Cordless Swivel Sweeper box says: As Seen On TV. Not by me; but I am familiar with those products that have made an enterprising person or company big profits by selling via television advertisements. The "As Seen On TV" logo was not what caught my eye, when I spotted the box displayed on an end-cap at the local Rite Aid store. Passing the store, I decided to check availability and price of DustbustersTM. The Cordless Swivel Sweeper box is about two and a half inches wide, much smaller than a DustbusterTM box. It also has a little plastic handle. The words, "Lightweight - 2 lbs", is why I stopped to read about the sweeper.

Before I noticed "As Seen On TV", I noticed the three pictures, labeled Wood, Tile and Carpet. The Carpet photo impressed me; she is using the sweeper on stairs. I do not have stairs, but I remember the frustration of vacuuming stairs. I also do not have pets, but I had to smile at the Tile photo which reminded me of my children's pet bowl spilled food. Other advertising on the Sweeper box says:

. Rechargeable
. Powerful 7.2 Volts
. Picks up everything, from dust to the big stuff!
. Swivels 360 degrees for easy maneuverability!
. Floor Sliders: Sweeper effortlessly glides on floor surfaces.
. Edge Cleaning Brushes: Gets the mess along walls and in the corners.
. Quad-Brush Technology: Picks up from all four sides at the same time for faster, easier cleaning.

More photos on the back and sides of the box shows "soggy vegetables", "Tight Places-Behind Furniture" and "Under Furniture". Rather than shop around to compare DustbusterTM prices, I decided to buy it. I like the idea of a quick clean-up around the pet food bowls without bending or getting on my knees. Assembly of the sweeper was easy. The parts have little stickers with A, B, C and arrows. I could have put the parts together without looking at the instructions. Initial battery charge is 8 hours, so I plugged it in until bedtime. Trying the Cordless Swivel Sweeper in the morning, I am happy to report that the claims on the box are true. I did not test soggy vegetables, stairs or pet food, but it does get in tight spots and under furniture. Emptying the bagless tray was easy. The sweeper comes with a tool to cut through hair or strings that get caught up in the brushes. It makes the chore a breeze. The swivel head tilted to the side makes for flat storage of the sweeper.

I recommend the Cordless Swivel Sweeper for anyone who does not want to drag the vacuum cleaner into the bathroom; has pets or stairs. My kitchen floor stays fairly clean, but it seems like it would be a great alternative to a broom and dust pan, because it picks up everything. I would not recommend it for anyone who does not like emptying the tray, which is small. If your pets have long hair, it might mean more time spent cleaning the Quad-brushes. The other minus, for some people, is that the sweeper was made in China. The Cordless Swivel Sweeper is distributed by Ontel Products Corporation and cost $34.99 at Rite Aid.

Additional Note: The Cordless Swivel Sweeper is available online. The "Buy One, Get One Free" price, which includes a $24.98 S&H charge is $69.99, meaning each sweeper would cost $34.98.

@daphne: I wonder if you cleaned the bristles. Mine is still working, and I published this in 2007, which is a lot longer usage than your ten days. I do not have pet hairs, but human hair, threads that get twisted in the bristles, makes movement slow, meaning it would not pick stuff up. At first I would clean the bristles after each use, but now only do it once in while.

purchase the sweeper, and in 10 days the sweeper just won't pick up anything even after charging the battery. Very disappointed in this product.

I loved my Swivel Sweeper until it stopped working even after recharging the battery. The battery just will not work and to replace it if that is even the problem is almost as much as buying a new Swivel. I am very dissapointed in the product. Not being a rich person I expect my products to last longer than one year.

My battery is still going strong; had to look at article date to see how long I have had it.

I have had 3 and all lasted until the batteries failed so you end up having to throw out perfectly good units. To buy batteries with the cost of delivery is not an option.

The only thing I do not like about my sweeper is cleaning the bristles. Handle never broke and battery still works, tho' a while ago a commentor said hers did not last.

*I do like this product and the way it works to pick things up. The only minus is that the handle can easily break off even with fairly minimal use. It's made to move around, yet it breaks so easily and the warranty doesn't cover it after 3 months. Well like I said mine was usd once aweek.

I love the swivel sweeper,it works great on the floors, and carpets, I have two cats that get cat fur all over the furniture, and i have used the swivel sweeper on the couches, but it's awkward to use on the couch,so I would like you to make a smaller version, to use on the furniture, just like the large version, only smaller and hand held.
    Thank you
