Product Review: CoverGirl Advanced Radiance Restorative Cream Foundation

Jill P. Viers
I had not purchased a CoverGirl product for a long time, but when I saw this foundation in the store, I thought it looked like a good product.

The product's "restorative" feature refers to the reduction of wrinkles. I do not really have wrinkles yet, so I cannot say whether or not it is helping that (reviews of this feature on the website were positive, though). I do sometimes get blemishes, and this foundation has not made my skin look or feel oily or dried out. Since I have been using it, my skin has looked great.

When I purchased the product, it came with a free sample of Oil of Olay's Regenerist Daily Regenerating Cleanser. I almost exclusively use Oil of Olay products for skin care, so a free sample was another selling point for me. This recent purchase in a Kroger store cost me about $9, which is not too much considering I could have spent $40 on a similar product in a department store like Macy's.

The first thing I noticed about the product when I opened the lid was the smell. It just smells so fresh and clean, more like a moisturizing product than makeup. Like many moisturizers, it does have sunscreen with an SPF of 10. I wish I could say exactly what it smells like; all I know is that it smells great!

The foundation goes on very smoothly - it basically glides on the skin. It does not feel heavy or greasy at all. The color blends in completely to the skin and successfully covers any blemish. You do not need to use a whole lot of the makeup to get this coverage; in fact, if you put too much on, you will look sunburned.

When I come home from work at night, which is 9 hours or so after I put on the foundation, my skin still looks great.

There is a cool feature on CoverGirl's "Get ColorMatched" website where you can match your skin color and determine the best shade of foundation compared to your coloring. It is not an exact science, but it is helpful. To use this feature, you select your hair color, eye color, the closest shade to your skin color on a scale, and the colors that you normally wear/shades that compliment you the best. After entering your email address, you will receive a color match.

I have medium to tan skin with olive undertones. I chose the buff beige color and hoped it would not be too pink for my skin. It looked great. So great, that it almost seemed like I could have used one of many shades and still had it look correct.

I definitely would give this product 5 out of 5 stars. It is lightweight, the color looks nice and lasts all day, it covers up any skin imperfections, and it is relatively inexpensive. I am much more likely to try some of CoverGirl's other products now that I have had so much success with this foundation.
