My husband and I decided to replace our Craftsman garage door opener. The opener we replaced was over 20 years old and not in working condition. The new models at Sears ranged from $229 to $399 in price. The differences included the amount of horsepower, the number of lights, the number of remotes and a wireless option. After reviewing all the models available, we selected the unit described below.
Craftsman ½ HP Chain Drive model (18470) features:
• Regular price for this unit is $239, but you can find it on sale as low as $179.
• There is a one-year warranty for defective parts and a six-year warranty for replacement of the motor.
• This system has anti-burglary coding that prevents hackers from finding your frequency.
• This unit also has a PosiLock System that ensures your door is locked in place.
• The manual release feature is included in case of any power failures.
• The chain drive for this unit is considered reliable and has been purchased by consumers for over thirty years.
• This opener is equipped with two lights to help illuminate your garage.
• This Craftsman model is compatible with any universal vehicle remote.
• A keypad for wireless entry is included and can be programmed with a four-digit code.
Installation of the unit:
Installation of this product is relatively simple for handy individuals. Be sure to read the leaflet provided as it includes important installation instructions. Be careful to install the sensor carefully, as the door will not function if installed incorrectly. We were able to re-use our old remote, as well as the door links and metal hangers. We were not able to program the new remote to accommodate our second door. This was due to technology changes that occurred in the last few years. You can also have Sears do the entire installation if you feel you need help and can pay for the labor.
Rating:
Overall we would rate this product 4.5/5. It functions well with useful features and is sold at an economical price.

Post a CommentGreat review. Hopefully, will be needing a garage door opener, once we get our garage built this summer. Thanks for the info.
thanks for the review .. we are replacing an existing nonworking gd opener with the same craftsman you reviewed. We are hoping that the installation will be easier if we can use existing brackets, etc.
