The Crafty Bubbles line of products is by Bolek Craft Supplys Inc in Dover, Ohio. The manufacturer claims that the Patchouli Essential Oil is "highly concentrated" and can be used for aromatherapy, soap and candle making, vaporizers, lotions, and diffusers. My bottle came in the ½ ounce size.
The Patchouli Homemade Soap Test
I must admit that I love the smell of patchouli. Patchouli is not a subtle fragrance. Most people either love it or hate it. I have a friend who swears patchouli has the exact same smell as body odor. We agree to disagree.
It is difficult to find commercially made soap at a reasonable price that does not have animal fat (tallow). Since I am vegetarian and striving toward ethical veganism, I decided to make my own soap.
I used Life of the Party brand Natural Avocado Cucumber Soap, which is a melt and pour glycerin soap. Simply cut the soap into about 1" pieces, put into a microwave safe container, and melt. After the soap is completely melted, I add about five drops of patchouli essential oil and mix it into the melted soap. I then pour the melted soap into plastic soap molds, making four bars of soap.
We use the soap in the shower on our face and whole body. It smells wonderful, but is not overpowering.
The Patchouli Personal Scent Test
Although the bottle of Crafty Bubbles Patchouli warns "Do not use directly on skin", I disregarded this warning. Touching the patchouli oil residue from the lid of the bottle to my inner wrist, I put on a tiny amount of the oil. My skin is generally on the sensitive side, and I had no negative reaction whatsoever.
After I had applied the small amount of patchouli oil to my inner writst, my husband and I took our regular hour-long evening walk around our neighborhood. He commented several times on how good I smelled. The scent has great staying power, most likely staying with you until your next shower.
Where to Buy
I purchased the ½ fluid ounce bottle of Crafty Bubbles Patchouli Essential Oil at my local Hobby Lobby store for $5.99. Crafty Bubbles also offers direct online or telephone orders, although the website is very basic.
The Bottom Line
The Crafty Bubbles™ Patchouli Essential Oil smells wonderful. A little bit goes a long way, making this product an excellent value.

Post a CommentHey Lori! From one vegetarian to another :o) My son and I have made soap from scratch several times and patchouli is our favorite! It's a good seller at craft festivals, too. Pam
Great review! I find that there are days that I love patchouli and days where I can't stand it. LOL I'll try this on the former. :-)
ahh, Patchouli Oil...takes me back to my old hippy dippy days..LOL
Nikki, that's hilarious! The patchouli deodorant sounds awesome.
mmm ... I love the smell of patchouli! I once followed a man and his wife all through a mall trying to catch up to them and find out what scent the man was wearing b/c he smelled so good. Turns out he had on patchouli deodorant. LOL
I love patchouli but stopped wearing it or using it too often long ago because so many people don;t like it.
I loved the homemade soap recipe. thanks for all the great info
Now I want to go out and buy some
What a great review. I never heard of this stuff. I just finished submitting a review for a Bath and Body Works hand soap that my wife got which smells awful (Mandarin Lime Energy Aromatherapy hand soap). Seems to make more sense to make your own soaps and they'd probably be a lot cheaper using essences like this Crafty Bubbles. Dave
Thanks for the comments! Sophie, it's worth it to me to do what I can to prevent death and/or cruelty to animals :)
Fantastic review Lori! I love the smell of Patchouli too!!
This product sounds great. You must find it a pain at times to ensure that everything you use is suitable for vegetarians.
