Product Review: Deep Cleansing Clay Mask by Olay

Since I have a combination skin, I like to keep my oil in control my using clay masks to get rid of excess oil. The one that I am wearing right at this moment is Olay's Deep Cleansing Clay Mask. I wanted to write all the things about this and what better way than writing it while I am wearing it.

Here is the description of the product in the package: "Get a deep down clean that goes beyond basic cleansing. The rich kaolin clay and marine extract formula detoxifies by drawing out impurities like a spa facial to give your skin a fresh start."

First thing that I noticed when began using this is that it is not really strong. By strong, I mean that it does not draw out as much oil as other clay masks and it feels very gentle. Other clay masks that I use, like Queen Helen's Mint Julep Mask, are a little harsh. I am not saying that Mint Julep Mask is very harsh but it is not as gentle as Olay's Clay Mask. Mint Julep Mask has a lot of different ingredient that makes it feel different on the skin than Olay's but they contain the same clay, which is kaolin clay. I am not sure if that matters or not, but I sure noticed that Olay's clay mask was very gentle.

The other thing that I quickly noticed was the scent. All the products from Olay have a strong definite fragrance, except for the fragrance free ones. Well, this clay mask is supposed to have kaolin clay and marine extract formula but it smells very flowery, like the other Olay products. The other thing is that the color is very light blue and it seems a bit fake too.

As for it deep cleansing, I am not sure it did the job. I do not feel any cleaner or any less oily than before using this mask. I think the gentleness of this clay mask would be great but if it worked, I would have liked it much, much better.

So, is this product worth the cost and the time that I spend using it? I don't think so. It is relatively cheap, being around $8, but I would much rather use masks that may be more harsh but has a more dramatic or just faster effects. This is very gentle and I can see this working for even for dry and sensitive skin types, but there are a lot better things that I would spend my money on than this.
