Product Review: Dryer Max Dryer Balls by OnTel Products

Mary Moss
This article reviews Dryer Max Dryer Balls by OnTel Products. I'm not generally one to purchase every new gadget or latest invention advertised on television! I am however, very concerned about the environment and our family works rather diligently to keep our collective carbon footprint as small as possible. Additionally, my husband my two kids have allergies to some laundry products, including ingredients in some laundry detergents, fabric softeners and dryer sheets.

I purchased the Dryer Max Dryer Balls for $9.99 at Walgreens. The Dryer balls come 2 per package and each rubber ball is a little smaller than a tennis ball. The balls have soft nodules - like soft rubber spikes - all over them and my set is light blue.

One of the reasons I never liked to use fabric softener is that over time the fabric softener breaks down the fibers in clothing. Since we're not big clothes hogs and tend to wear clothing we purchase for a long time and fairly often, we appreciate that the nodules on the Dryer Max Dryer Balls separate the fabric to allow air to circulate efficiently without being so hard on the fibers. The Dryer Max Dryer Balls are much gentler on the fibers of clothes, towels and other laundry items than traditional fabric softener.

I have noticed that since I've switched from fabric softeners to the Dryer Max Dryer Balls, I have less lint to clean out of my dryer's lint filter and off the door of the dryer. That's how I know the fibers in the fabrics of my clothes, towels, etc. are not being broken down so harshly - more lint = more fabric fibers.

Also, the fact that drying clothes using the Dryer Max Dryer Balls means that we're not adding chemical compounds to our clothes, and releasing them into the environment. Our clothes do dry faster than when we used liquid fabric softener or fabric softener sheets. The efficient air circulation allows clothes to dry faster. I believe some of the ads I've seen indicate you'll cut your drying time in half. I haven't found that to be the case all the time, especially when I'm drying a load of towels or jeans. But the time is reduced and for lighter weight loads, the drying time may very well be close to a 50% reduction.

I've have found that we have almost no static cling when we take our clothes out of the dryer. We do try to separate cotton and synthetic fabrics when we do laundry, but that's always practical. With the Dryer Max Dryer Balls, very little to no static electricity is evident in my laundry when it comes out of the dryer.

I know we have saved money by not having to purchase liquid fabric softener or fabric softener dryer sheets. We also never need to worry about not having fabric softener when we're ready to dry a load of clothes. The Dryer Max Dryer Balls are always available and never run out. The life expectancy of the Dryer Max Dryer Balls is about three years. That's a savings of a tremendous amount of chemical compounds from being released into the environment and into our clothes and a savings of at least a couple of hundred of dollars over the live of the Dryer Max Dryer Balls.

I give the Dryer Max Dryer Balls by OnTel Products a 5 out of 5 stars!

One of my dryer balls ripped in half too, after less than 6 months of washing only two people's clothing.

Well, folks, we've been using the same set since I first posted this article and we have been very pleased. We don't like static in our laundry and we don't like chemicals from fabric softeners nor do we like how the fibers are worn down so quickly by the chemicals in them.

I'm not sure the brand others have purchased or how they have been used, but we've been satisfied with our very minimal investment and feel good about being a bit more green in our laundering.

I purchased the dryer ball set (tennis ball sized rubber spikey style from the tv commercials 'dryer max' brand). After about 20 cycles in the dryer, one ball totally ripped apart. NOT a product I would recommend or buy again. I haven't seen any improvement in dry time, etc and they don't work any better than a cheap, more durable tennis ball.

My wife purchased a set of dryer balls and my first concern was, if they are made in China, should I be fearful of the possibility that there is lead in them.
