Product Review: Edwards Key Lime Pie Satisfies the Sweet Tooth and Controls Portions

Afton Nelson
Edwards Key Lime Pie in the 2 slice serving box is a delicious treat with just the right amount of pie for a guilt-free dessert.

I do not make pie, as a rule. Every once in a while I will attempt a blueberry pie, or some other kind of fresh berry pie in the summer. But usually, each attempt, while resulting in a pie-like dessert, comes far from meeting my expectations. However, when piled in bowl with a scoop of ice cream, my kind family has few complaints.

My favorite pie is Key Lime pie. I would never actually try and make a Key Lime pie. Every once in a while, on a special occasion, I buy a whole Key Lime pie from a pie shop or restaurant. However, it's always a little dangerous to have a whole pie sitting around the house. Sometimes I just want a piece or two with out the added temptation of 6 more pieces waiting to be consumed.

Imagine my delight when I noticed just such a product in my grocery store frozen dessert section. Edwards makes whole pies, but they also make a product with just 2 slices of pie. It's a perfect alternative for me, because often with a whole pie, my portions become pretty big as do my seconds and sometimes thirds.

Each slice is in it's own little triangle shaped box. I just take one slice out of the freezer and set the box out on the counter for about 20 minutes before I'm ready to enjoy my dessert. The box is easy enough to open with a little perforated rip tab around the edge of the box. At that point, you can flip the top of the box open, grab and fork and enjoy. For an added touch of class, simply put it on a plate! Just tear the sides of the box to make it easier to get the slice out.

Each slice is pretty small, but that's ok. Sometimes, it's all I need to satisfy my sweet tooth. There are 330 calories in each slice, 16 grams of fat and 42 grams of carbs.

Edwards offers other varieties of pie slices in the freezer section of the grocery store. I've only seen a couple of other varieties at my store, but on the back of the box, they list: turtle pie, mocha mudslide pie, pecan cream cheese pie, lemon meringue pie, Georgia pecan pie, Oreo cream pie, and chocolate cream pie made with Hershey's.

I love that I'm able to buy a few slices of pie at a time. Edwards Key Lime Pie is a wonderful treat that is just right

Edwards Lemon Meringue Pie is awful. The crust (vanilla wafers?) is very soggy.

I assumed the parent company didn't share the same biblical views as the Edwards family. Schwan's acquired them in 2001.

What happened to the scripture verses ? ? ? I need an explanation !! It is a very good pie. Plus the scripture verses put it in a very special place of its own. That very special place now seems to be missing. Is this one destined to be 'just another pie' ?????????

the edward's pies are my favorite! the only thing i hate is that target is the only place i've been able to find them in the grocery section here in chicago...know anywhere else I can find them?

Our favorite pie. I don't know if anyone else missed this but, Edwards key lime pie used to have Bible verses stamped in the bottom of the tin. Later it was printed on the outside of the box.Now it seems to be missing compleatly. What's with that. I hope it wasn't removed because it might offend someone ????? I'd like it back. Are there any votes?

  • Key Lime Pie really impressed my daughter and I8/11/2008

My daughter had a piece of Key Lime Pie at a restaraunt and loved it! That was her first time.
She and I were getting items for dinner at the store and she saw that in the frozen section and wanted to try it since she had found a new liking of the pie. We brought it home and thawed it out and even I was impressed with the taste!
For the price it was worth every bite! : )
