Last winter, our office was hit with a nasty, lingering cold and flu bug. Determined not to catch it, I decided to try the product Emergen-C Super Energy Booster.
Read on to learn more about this product and see if it helped me avoid the office "bug".
General Information
The box of Emergen-C I purchased contained 36 individually wrapped packets of powder which are equal to one serving. This product comes in a variety of flavors including: orange, tangerine, raspberry, lemon-lime and acai berry. I chose orange so that I could mix it with orange juice and get some extra Vitamin C.
Each serving contains 1,000 mg of Vitamin C, 32 mineral complexes and some B vitamins.
The price for a box of Emergen-C at Wal-Mart was $8.86. It was actually cheaper at my local grocery store, costing $7.99.
Dosage
The recommended dose is 2 to 4 packets per day. At that dosage you could go through a box in two weeks or less. Since I wanted my supply of Emergen-C to last a bit longer than two weeks, I decided to start with one packet per day, using half in the morning and half in the evening. If I felt any symptoms of illness coming on, I boosted my dosage to two packages per day.
The directions on the package stated to mix one packet with 4 - 6 ounces of water, so I mixed my half packet with 2 ounces of water. The powder causes the water to fizz and once the fizzing slows down, it's ready to drink. It is a bit watery, so you can mix it with juice instead. After drinking my first dose with just water, I decided to try it mixed with juice. Not bad, but it was almost too much juice. I finally compromised with half juice and half water which is the best combination for my taste.
Personal Findings
Emergen-C worked for me. I admit, I didn't always feel 100% and sometimes still felt a little under the weather while using it, but I never got the full blown cold or flu that the others in my office did. I will definitely be using Emergen-C during this year's cold and flu season.
Additional Information
Since Emergen-C worked so well for me, I decided to stock up for this cold and flu season. I noticed that although the price has remained the same, a box now contains only 30 packets. Also, the product's name is slightly different. It has been changed to Emergen-C Health and Energy Booster.
