Product Review: Excedrin Migraine

Garnet Miller
I found Excedrin Migraine quite by accident. I work in the operating room at a local surgery center. My job can be stressful at times. Headaches were normal every now and then but six months after I started my job, the headaches reached migraine level.

A neurologist prescribed different medications for my migraines, but nothing worked satisfactorily. One day, I saw a commercial for Excedrin Migraine so I decided to give it a try and I was not disappointed.

Excedrin Migraine works on tough migraine headaches. When shining lights feel like hot pokers piercing your head and a wave of nausea overcomes you, relief needs to be quick. Within thirty minutes after taking Excedrin Migraine, the intensity of my migraine had decreased. I was then able to sleep so the migraine medication could continue to work on my headache pain.

Excedrin Migraine comes in an easy-to-swallow geltab formula. Uncoated tablets are hard to digest and cause me to gag. The coating on the geltabs made swallowing such a tablet easier. I have a hard time swallowing pills anyway so this fact was a real selling point for me. If I could change one thing about Excedrin Migraine though, it would be that the coated pills become smaller.

Most headache medications require you to repeat the dose every four to six hours. With Excedrin Migraine, two tablets are all you need for a full twenty-four hours. Each tablet contains 565 milligrams of pain reliever to fight your migraine. I don't feel an edge where the medication is wearing off when it's time to re-dose. To me, that defeats the purpose where migraines are concerned. When the pain returns, it's like you're starting back at square one with each new dose.

The active ingredients in Excedrin Migraine are acetaminophen, aspirin, and caffeine. I was surprised to see caffeine on the label, and then I learned that caffeine helps to constrict the blood vessels, easing the pain. I had seen migraine sufferers drink a PepsiĀ® or other caffeinated drink in a pinch at the onset of a migraine and it seemed to help.

Excedrin Migraine costs less than prescription medications and has few side effects. With Excedrin Migraine, I experienced nothing but relief. Side effects like hives or facial swelling for those allergic to aspirin could occur, but I didn't notice any of these symptoms when I took it. With the prescription medication I took, I did experience dry mouth.

Now there is an over-the-counter migraine medication that works and is economical. For those migraine sufferers without health insurance, Excedrin Migraine is a godsend. For six dollars, relief that rivals prescription medications is close at hand. As a person with tough migraine headaches, I would recommend Excedrin Migraine to anyone.
