Product Review: Fisher-Price Kid Tough Camera

My curious 3-year-old daughter has a multitude of interests. I don't know any adults who are into drawing, dancing, building, swimming and acting. Another one of her interests is taking pictures, and that led to us buying the Fisher Price Kid Tough Camera.

When I was a kid, there were no real cameras made especially for me. Today, my girl can pick up my digital camera and snap a picture. She also knows how to shoot a picture with a camera phone. The Fisher-Price camera gives her the ability to walk around the house snapping photos, so she doesn't need to grab our cameras anymore.

The first thing you notice about the Fisher-Price camera is its chunky design. The camera has big sides that are easy for a child to grasp. This also helps her hold the camera steady for the photo.

The Fisher-Price camera also has two viewfinders, so the child can look with either eye. There is also a screen on the back, so the child can set up her picture without the viewfinder. It also has a wrist strap.

The button design is very simple - in fact, I wish my camera were set up like this. It has a lime-green button in the front to take the picture.

On the back is a blue power button, two yellow arrow buttons and one red "x " button. This makes it easy for the child to turn the camera on and off; scroll back and forth through the photos; and delete pictures she doesn't want.

The camera makes fun sounds, too. In addition to the exaggerated "power up" and "power down" sounds, it gives a satisfying "ka-CHISH" when the child snaps a photo. The camera has enough memory to hold 60 photos.

Downloading photos is easy as well. The camera comes with a software CD and a wire that connects the camera to the computer. It's so simple, your child could probably set it up himself.

The software allows you so download some or all of the photos and manipulate them just as easily as you can for an adult camera.

The Fisher-Price Kid-Tough camera is 4 inches tall and 5 inches wide. It contains a lithium battery, but it also requires four AA batteries.

It comes in pink and blue and costs $70. It is available at toy stores and at fisher-price.com.

My daughter loves the camera, and she is currently using it to take photos for a book she is writing about her stuffed animals.
