Product Review: Freschetta PizzAmore 10 Topping Supreme Pizza

Bandit
A pre sliced pizza covered with a generous amount of toppings and all natural cheese.

For several weeks I had been seeing this commercial on television telling about a new pizza and since I love pizza I decided to purchase one on my next shopping trip. There are not a lot of frozen pizzas out there that lock in that fresh take out taste and I wanted to see what this pizza could offer me. The pizza was on sale at Wal-Mart for only $ 5.00 so I bought one and headed home.

Later that morning it was close to lunch time and I wanted to try this new pizza so I pre heated my oven according to the directions on back and once my oven was ready I popped the pizza in. This pizza does come packaged sitting on it's own baking tray so I thought that this would give the pizza a good crunch to the crust. When the pizza was ready I took it out and let it cool a minute or two and took a bite. The first thing I noticed of the taste was the gooey mozzarella and the zest of the parmesan cheese. It was quite yummy. Then I tasted the sausage which was not too spicy and kind of bland. I could also taste a hint of garlic which was not overwhelming but just enough to let me know it was there.

There are red yellow and green bell peppers on the top of the pizza as well as roasted red onions. All of the veggies were okay and had a slight crispness to them. The mixture of the sausage and cheeses and all the veggies were flavorful and I did not care too much for the pepperoni. Omit that and this pizza would be better. One great thing about this pizza is the fact that it is not drowning on oil which you might be expecting it to with all of the meat toppings on it. The pizza comes with 10 toppings and you would think that you can taste everything together in each bite. This is not so. You do not get all the flavors in every bite.

The pizza comes in a green cardboard box and has a picture of the pizza towards the bottom center and shows the pizza loaded with all the toppings. There is also a list of all ten toppings on the front: Mozzarella, Parmesan, Pepperoni, Spicy Sausage, Green, Red and yellow bell peppers, roasted red onions, garlic and oregano. The baking tray that this pizza comes on is only a piece of thin paper. The paper is coated black and does not do much of a good job of adding crispiness or crunch to the pizza crust. I would recommend using a pizza pan for this instead to give the crust that crunch. The crust does come out of the oven perfectly puffed up and only has a slight crispness to it. The picture on the front of the box looks much better than the actual one who bake.

My final thought on this is that I will stick with my Tombstone pizzas. They bake up to perfection every time and the crust has that crispy crunch that a pizza should have.

I haven't been overly impressed with Freschetta either. I have purchased them when I have an in-store coupon, but I wouldn't pay full price. I also prefer Tombstone. I love Red Baron too. If I got them for free I definitely wouldn't turn them down though. :-) Great review!

Five bucks at Wal-Mart? Even if it costs more and isn't on sale, I am getting a couple of these to try out the next time I am there!
