Product Review: Gevalia Coffee

Lisa M. Russell
Late again; the morning comes as a rude awakening. With no time to fix your favorite coffee, you drive through the closest fast food window that has promised a new and improved brew. They even inject just the right amount of cream for you, no more steering, and struggling with those little creamers. Ahhh. Finally, your morning coffee, hot steaming creamed just the way you crave it. Another rude awakening as your taste buds are assaulted.

Fast food brew will due, most of the time but there is nothing like your favorite brand homemade with the right dairy to paint your coffee the correct hue. You can have your battery acid working man's Joe from the local gas station. You can pay the high price of branded brewed and latté large, or should I say vente? I will take Gevalia any day of the week, when I have time to fix it myself.

I was seduced into trying Gevalia brand coffee by a brilliant marketing scheme. Imagine, you get a great gift just to try something even greater- smooth, rich and aromatic coffee. I was hooked by the free coffee maker that had high retail price tag and became an addict of Gevalia's fine coffee. I even bought a coffee grinder to get the most out of my favorite Antiqua coffee beans from Gevalia. I have tried Gevalia's seasonal packages- offered with another gift attached - all good. I have tried the coffee company's organic beans- with free travel mugs. I even got a free stainless Gevalia carafe just for sampling a specialty grind.

What is the catch? The coffee is more expensive than anything you usually buy in the store. It is about 9.00 for a half-pound bag and you get a shipment every month, unless you ask them to send them less frequently. A regular shipment usually is about 33.00. You have total control on payment choices, shipment frequency, selections of coffees or teas and you can cancel at any time and keep the great free stuff!

I love the customer service, they are helpful and accommodating. They are not pushy if you cancel or reduce your shipments. They are like great servers in a good restaurant. There is something wrong with strong-arm tactics; sales people convincing you to buy something you do not want. Nothing is more annoying than perhaps paying too much for a bad cup of coffee.

The price of the coffee may turn you off. I have heard people say they cannot tell the difference. I think they have damaged taste buds from drinking swill for so long. Just watch the Discovery channel's special on the history of coffee in America and you will run and throw out store brand chicory blends. I don't know how my mother's generation ever drank...ugh...SANKA! I choose the higher ground and treat myself daily to a great cup of coffee with fat free dairy. You will definitely pay less to brewed at home with Gevalia and enjoy it more than a cup of gas station grunge.

I am saying GO GEVALIA! I am not getting anything for sharing Gevalia with you -although I could use a new coffee maker... I just want you to experience and enjoy a great cup of coffee that is delivered to your door. I think its time for some right now. Go Gevalia.

Well finally I have found a forum to complain. I have bought Gevalia coffee for quite a few years now%252C but it seems your company has grown too large to have a customer service in the USA and frankly%252C I%2527m tired of trying to talk to someone difficult to understand in another country. Therefore%252C I have cancelled my account with you. I guess cheaper labor helps you out%252C but it just makes me glad that I found out%252C as I can buy other good coffees on a local level and at least support the home-town folks selling it can talk to them about%252C not someone in Asia. 903.799.5411.
