Let me start by stating that my husband and adult son are among the approximately 1 % (according to Wikipedia) of American who are allergic to peanuts. Although the number of people who are allergic to peanuts is small, it is really important to that 1% to avoid anything connected to peanuts. The symptoms can vary from severe headaches to death.
Before becoming aware that they had a peanut allergy, both my husband and son loved peanut butter. When they were diagnosed and connected the debilitating headaches to the peanut butter, they ceased to enjoy the pleasures of eating it because the pleasure did not last long.
After many years, we have found an alternative that is really very good. It is also very cost effective. I know there are other types of "butter" made from cashews and other nuts, but the consistency is different and does not remind you of peanut butter. The alternative we have found is a Wal-mart brand, Great Value Soy Butter. I have not been able to find it at the Wal-mart Neighborhood Markets, but it is available at the super centers and comes in a jar just like peanut butter. While you may be able to tell a slight difference the first time you taste it, the taste is remarkably the same as peanut butter. The consistency is also the same and it can be used for baking just like peanut butter.
My daughter in law has made peanut butter cookies using this product and they turned out very well. Most of our family has switched to the Wal-mart Soy Butter. The grandchildren are just as happy eating Soy Butter and Jelly sandwiches. The nutrition values are about the same as name brand peanut butter. It is gluten-free. When I was doing the research for this article, I found that most peanut butter also has soybean oil in it. Some people who might say they have an objection to soy nuts are actually eating soy products. If you check the labels of your favorite processed foods, you would find a soy product (perhaps soy lecithin) in most of them. Since Great Value Soy Butter is a Wal-mart brand, the cost is considerably lower than brand name peanut butter.
If you need an alternative to peanut butter, try this brand. I can recommend it as a product that measures up to peanut butter.

Post a CommentThis Walmart soy butter is , in my opinion, better than peanut butter, less oily, but it just vanished from our Walmart shelves and it's sad. My son is allergic to alot of foods, and he keeps asking for his soy butter.
our mother is allergic to all nuts of any form, except for coconut(not a nut). does soy butter have any other nut oils in it?????????????????
