Product Review: Healthy Choice Low Fat Smoked Sausage
Healthy Choice Low Fat Smoked Sausage May Be Healthy but is it Good?
Product Information:
The ConAgra Food Manufacturer has a line of products that have become well-known to most grocery shoppers. It is the Healthy Choice brand. Healthy Choice is probably best known for it's frozen dinner line. That is not one of my favorites because there are other frozen dinners that are just as healthy and taste better. Healthy choice also has a line of processed meat products. One of the ones I use is the Healthy Choice Low Fat Smoked Sausage. The sausage comes in a 14 oz size package that contains two 7 oz. sausages. The sausage is made from turkey and pork. The serving size on the package is 2 ounces. The 2 oz serving has 60 calories. It has only 2.5 grams of fat with 1 gram being saturated fat. It has 7 grams of protein per serving. It comes fully cooked.
Recommendation:
This is a product that my family really enjoys. My husband usually does not like products made from turkey and states that he can tell if the product is made from turkey. This is a product that tastes like beef. My husband knows that it is made from turkey, but he cannot tell that from the taste of the product. The flavor and quality of the meat is very good. It does have a good smoked flavor. The only issue we have had is that it tends to be a little salty. I solved that issue by rinsing off the sausage when I take it out of the package. The serving size is a little small if you are not putting the sausage in another dish. However, with the extremely low fat and calorie content, you can afford to double or triple the serving size. The amount of protein you get with such a low fat content is excellent for a healthy diet. That is why the product gets an endorsement from the American Heart Association on it's package. We use the sausage both as a main dish and also as an ingredient in pasta or rice dishes. At $2.14 for the package at the local Wal-mart, the meat is still cost effective.
When you eat Healthy Choice Low Fat Smoked Sausage, you don't have to sacrifice taste to eat healthy food.
