Product Review: Herbs for Kids by Temp-Assure

The worst part of common childhood illnesses is the dreaded fever. Although a fever is actually a favorable event during illness, sometimes we need a little something extra for comfort for our little ones. For those of us who try to avoid over the counter fever reducer's there is Temp Assure from Herbs for Kids. This a great herbal remedy that works pretty quickly on fevers. It will help fight bacterial infections and viruses.

My kids don't get sick very often, I can count on one hand how many time both have been sick combined. The two times they have had high fevers I have given them temp assure. The one time was in the middle of the night and my son was spiking a fever quickly! It was very worriesome and I didn't want to take him out to go get aspirin or another medicine and only had this on hand. It worked beautifully. His fever actually broke within hours and he was up playing as usual. Totally back to his normal self. Temp assure is really good stuff!

I bought my temp assure about a year and a half ago through a natural foods co-op. It doesn't expire until next summer so it was a good value, though I haven't used much of it!

The average cost is around $7 per 1 oz bottle. Temp assure is available at most health food stores and co-ops. You may also find it in some larger grocery stores and drugstores. It is also available through mail and internet order and can be found in many web stores.

The ingredients of Temp Assure are;

Echinacea, peppermint, elder flowers, yarrow, catnip, kosher coconut/palm oil, glycerin, purified water and citric acid.

The herbs in this formula compliment each other really well. Echinacea is used to fight infection. Peppermint is naturally cooling to the body and beneficial during a fever. Elder flowers are a long time remedy for treating fevers and is a blood purifier and cell cleanser. It is also an anti inflammatory and anti catarrhal. Catnip is a soothing slightly sedative herb that will calm your child when he or she is feeling unwell but it is also a fever reducer like the others. Yarrow helps promote sweating and in turn helps detoxify the body of any bacteria or viruses.

This herbs for kids formula is actually pretty tasty and is not as bitter or strong as a regular tincture. I have gotten both my kids to take it straight from the bottle with no complaints or refusal. It also comes with a convenient dropper so it's easy to administer. If your child won't take it plain you can mix it with a little cranberry, apple or grape juice.

Temp assure is recommended to give 3 times daily w/ specific dosages according to your child's weight. I actually prefer to use it every 1/2 hour until symptoms subside for faster results.

All in all this is a really valuable remedy to have in your herbal home medicine chest. It is really gentle yet effective and a good alternative to over the counter medications that can have dangerous side effects. I would recommend it to any parent out there who wants to be prepared the next time your child gets sick! I will definitely be keeping some on hand even though we don't evenuse it all that often! I think I am also going to start giving some out for gifts for new Mom's and Dad's as I feel it's really effective and so gentle. Plus the bottle will last forever! The plus is the parents can also use it when they are sick too!

As with any fever if your child does not show improvement within 24 hours you will likely want to contact your pediatrician. Be sure to offer lots of fluids and either provide a cool bath or compresses for comfort.
