I recently found myself in need of a new printer. I upgraded my computer from an older model that was equipped with Windows 98 to a new computer that has Windows Vista. My printer was not compatible with Windows Vista, and the free download that I found on the website that would make it compatible, looked suspicious to me, I had downloaded the software once before, in the past, and it worked, but the download was different this time with a strange name, so I was afraid to use it. I felt it would be best to purchase a new printer. You all know the old saying of, better safe than sorry.
My printer needs are very basic, I only use it occasionally for a photo or two, sometimes a recipe or something similar. I went to my local Walmart in search of an inexpensive printer that would fit my needs.I found several models that were priced under $40.00, each had added value bonuses, of different software, photo paper and such. I finally settled on the inexpensive printer, the HP Deskjet D1520. It seemed to be just what I needed, and it was compatible with my Windows Vista, for the low price of $32.99.
I brought my new inexpensive printer home and opened the box. Everything that I needed was there. The printer, power cord, ink cartridge, installation DVD and detailed instructions. However, there was no USB cable. Luckily I still had the one that came with my other printer, so I was all set to install my new inexpensive printer.
The installation page was quite simple. You first attached the power cord, then installed the ink cartridge, attached the USB cable and inserted it into an available USB port on your computer. The next step was to turn on your computer and let it discover your new hardware. How easy is that? And, how often does it actually work that way? In this instance it did. I was then prompted to insert the installation DVD to download the software. Once this had completed, I was then asked if I would like to print a preview page to see if my inexpensive printer was working properly. I clicked yes and voilĂ , it worked like a charm. My new inexpensive printer was up and running in just a few short minutes.
The inexpensive printer, HP Deskjet D1520 had included an added bonus of the Nova Greeting Card Factory Photo Card Maker, which is valued at $29.99. I couldn't resist. I inserted the installation DVD to download the necessary files to make my own greeting cards, post cards and photo cards. Wow, what a product! There are so many choices to choose from. There are literally 100's of templates and pictures to experiment with.
The first project that I tried to accomplish was an 8"X10" wall hanging, that I wanted to make for my sister for a Christmas present. It is beautiful. I chose a red rose for the background, and then printed over the top a poem which I had written especially for her, I then printed it out and placed it in a beautiful picture frame. The colors are so vibrant, it looks as if it has been professionally made. All of this was possible, just from installing the Nova Greeting Card Factory, which was a bonus of my inexpensive printer, the HP Deskjet D1520.
Am I satisfied with the purchase of my new inexpensive printer the HP Deskjet D1520? Very much so!
Am I satisfied with the quality of the prints? Yes I am!
Am I satisfied with the over all value? Definitely!
Am I satisfied with the quality of this inexpensive printer? Yes!
Would I recommend the purchase of this inexpensive printer to my friends and relatives? Yes I would!

Already have a printer, but this is a great review.
Fantastic review! This would make a great gift! :-)
Sorry it took me a bit to get to this article. I have been away. One of my kids has this one and it does what it is supposed to do and it is perfect for their needs!
Good product review- I have an HP printer too and it's great.
I know you said in your article that it wasn't a big issue that they hadn't supplied the USB cable- but I find it extremely frustrating when things like that happen! Lucky for you you had one to use at hand :)
Yep, simple enough for anyone to understand.
Yes! I know someone who could use this. Is it simple enough for a 90 year old to understand? She is very mature but new to technology.
Oh I love HP's! Great review.
Hewlett Packard makes the best printers. No contest on that.
Excellent review.
