Product Review: InSTEP Safari Double Sport Swivel Stroller

Kelly Herdrich
I purchased my inSTEP Safari Double Sport Swivel Stroller after moving overseas with two small children. We arrived with a Graco DuoGlider, popular in the United States for walking short distances and mall walking. However, we quickly found that the Graco DuoGlider wasn't meant for a lot of walking, any jogging, and didn't do well on uneven pavement. We decided to try the an inSTEP double jogging stroller. We purchased ours on sale for $179.99 at amazon. Did it live up to our expectations?

Benefits

The inSTEP Safari Double Sport Swivel Stroller is well designed and this is the best benefit to purchasing it. It folds up fairly compactly and isn't too heavy. It has a swivel front wheel, which is much more convenient for walking than a stationary wheel. The stroller has good maneuverability due to the swivel wheel, making it convenient for sidewalk walking, jogging, off road walking, and uneven pavement. There is a sunshade with a clear window in the top so that I can still see the girls when it's open. It is recommended for children 6 months and older, and does come with 5 point harnesses.

The stroller is also very sturdy. We have really given it a beating over the past year, and it has continued to stay in good shape and to work well. In addition, the price for the inSTEP jogging stroller was excellent, making it a good value for the money.

Drawbacks

Since children are seated side by side, it can sometimes be a struggle to get the stroller through doors. It is designed to fit through a US standard sized door, but of course, not all doors are standard sized. If we are out shopping and the stroller won't fit, I have to leave it outside unattended and take my children in with me. This isn't always the best solution if you need the stroller while shopping.

Another drawback is that my children don't always sit well together. Being close in age, we have the occasional, "she hit me" or "I don't want her on my side." However, these instances are rare, and I like that the girls can see and talk to one another regularly. If it has ever become a problem, my oldest daughter knows that she has the choice to get out and walk.

I do feel that the sunshade could be a bit bigger, and wish that the stroller had come with a parent tray and a rain cover. However, these drawbacks are minor when looking at the big picture. Both can be purchased online for those interested, at a minimal extra fee.

Conclusion

Overall, we've been very pleased with the inSTEP Safari Double Sport Swivel Stroller. It is definitely a better choice for families who do a lot of walking than the Graco DuoGlider. In addition to good maneuverability and sturdiness, the stroller allows children to sit next to one another and communicate regularly. If you are going to use a stroller and you have two small children, the inSTEP Safari Double Sport Swivel Stroller is a great choice!

Great review. This is something we are currently thinking about with a 14 month old and another baby due in March. I'm worried about the side by side style not fitting through doors like you mentioned, but I'm not sure how often it will really be a problem. It sounds like you don't find it that much of a hassle. Maybe I will have to look into it further.

Thanks for reviewing the double stroller. This seems to be a really hot item on Ebay. Maybe this will get you a lot of page views. Good job.

Good luck. I hope it lasts. We went through one stroller after another when our kids were young. Seems I walk a lot more than the average stroller-pushing mom.
