Product Review: Jabra C250 Hands-free Corded Headset

Genie Walker
I have several good friends that live far away from me so we keep in contact by phone. Some of our conversations can last over an hour; I am left with aching ears and muscle strain in both arms from holding my cell phone up to my head. Talking on the phone wears me out; usually about 20 minutes into the conversation I'm laying in bed with the cell phone propped up on my face. Last month I finally had enough of having to do this and I got the idea to buy a headset.

For some reason I thought buying one would be easy; pick the first one I see was the plan. However, when I was faced with all the different choices I didn't know what to do. As I was standing there trying to decide which one to get a very friendly store employee stopped to ask me if I needed help. Feeling pretty lost and confused, I must have looked pitiful. He asked me some questions to help narrow down the choices. Then he pulled the Jabra C250 off the shelf and said this is in the one you need. Since I didn't know any reason not to believe him, I bought it.

It is great! My friends didn't know I was using a headset until I told them; the sound quality is that good. Maybe the headset brings too much clarity because I can now hear my friend's children bickering in the background. I could hear the kids before, but I was unable to make out the words - it was just noise in the background. Now, I get to hear whole conversations. Love their kids, but it makes me glad I don't live with them. I would go quietly insane if I had to hear that 24/7.

The Jabra C250 has a four foot cord; which is a little longer than I need, but that's okay. On the cord is a clip to fasten it to your clothes; this I don't use because it makes me feel less like an adult and more like a child who can not keep up with her mittens. On the very short microphone there is an answer/end button so you don't need to mess with your cell phone at all. The headset comes with MiniGels that fit into your ear, there are three extra ones in the package; one small and two standard sized. A small MiniGel is already fitted to the headset; it fits my ear perfectly. Okay, now I have to confess I didn't read the package to get the instructions on how to put it on. I was thinking "How hard could it be?" I did it wrong the first time or two because it was a pain to get the thing on my ear. I had so much trouble with it the first time that I called my mother and accused her of giving me defective ears.

According, to the instructions you put the MiniGel in your ear first then you lift the ear hook up to fit behind your ear. I was trying to do it the other way: over my ear then putting the MiniGel into my ear. Don't bother trying my way for yourself; it doesn't work. Once you properly put the headset on, it is very comfortable.

Although it is expensive (I paid $29.99 at Staples), I highly recommend the Jabra C250 to anyone who needs a headset for their cell phone.

I'm still using mine and still loving it.

Too bad this particular headset doesn't last long. I've had two of them in one year and they both have the same problem. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. I wouldn't buy this brand again.

Excellent review, I don't have a cell phone but, if I get one, I will keep this in mind. A friend of mine has one and she especially likes wearing it when she is driving, that way her eyes are on the road and hands are on the steering wheel. Hugs Mary

Good review. And $30.00 isn't too bad if it works well and you use it a lot!
