Product Review: KY Brand Yours + Mine Lubricant

KY® Brand Yours + Mine™ Lubricant is the newest personal lubricant from the KY® Corporation. It is marketed toward couples who want to give their intimacy a little boost, rekindle a dwindling flame or just take their relationship to the next level.

The lubricant is packaged in bottles resembling test tubes as a play on the human "chemistry" aspect of relationships. The purple tube is for her (mine), while the blue tube (yours) is for him. When applied, the lubricant is said to give an "invigorating sensation" to him and a "thrilling sensation" to her. When the two combine there will be an "amazing reaction."

According to the KY® website's FAQ's on Yours +Mine™, this lubricant will produce varying sensations based on the sensitivity of the persons using it and how much lubricant is applied, making it hard to describe exactly what the sensation will be from person to person. KY® also found that, through testing using actual couples, this lubricant opened up the lines of communication between partners. Couples were more likely to discuss what they were feeling. For these test couples it also helped them break free from routine sex and have more fun during foreplay allowing for more arousal and playfulness during intercourse.

KY® Yours + Mine™ lubricant is safe to use with latex condoms and it is recommended that the product be used both inside and outside of the condom so both partners can reap its benefits. This lubricant is not a contraceptive so condoms or spermicide are highly recommended to prevent pregnancy as well as the transmission of STD's.

Another neat little touch that the KY® Corporation added was glow in the dark lettering on the tubes. Special ink was used to label the bottles which absorbs light and "glows" in the dark making it easier to see which tube is which. The tubes themselves do not glow, only the lettering and only if placed in direct light for a short period of time.

KY® Yours + Mine™ is available at many retail stores across the country including drugstores like CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid as well as big box stores like Target and Walmart. My verdict:

We bought this lubricant to try something new in our relationship. I was curious about the new sensations it would bring about after seeing all the commercials showing "real couples" talking about why they used KY® Yours + Mine™ and the result when the two combined. The commercials basically showed this lube would result in fantastic flips and fireworks.

Unfortunately, we did not feel those firework sensations. The lubricant for her has a pleasing spearmint smell and offers a cooling yet warming sensation (similar to the sensation associated with Icy Hot or Ben-gay). It is not an unpleasant sensation, just one that can be startling if you are not expecting it at first. The lubricant for him did not generate any noticeable sensations for my husband, aside from doing what lube should do, reduce friction. When the two come together, he did not notice any change in sensation, while I noticed a slight warming to the already cool minty sensation. It's a pleasant sensation that does help with arousal, but it was not the fireworks I was expecting.

As with the test couples used by the KY® Corporation, it helped open up the lines of communication between us, which was very beneficial. We were able to talk about what we liked, what we were feeling and what we were not, which has been something I have been trying to overcome for some time.

Pros:

- Hers has a pleasing spearmint smell and causes a cooling yet warming sensation.
- Lubricant is not sticky like some, wipes clean easily, and dries without leaving a sticky reside.
- Helped open up the lines of communication
- Reduces friction
- Safe for use with latex condoms
-Glow in the dark lettering is a whimsical bonus as are the test tube shaped bottles.

Cons:

- No noticeable sensation for him.
- No major "fireworks" sensation when the two lubricants come together.

Overall, I think we will continue to use this lubricant to spice up our relationship. The pros outweighed the cons two to one and it really did help open up the lines of communications, which I know will help benefit us in the future.

Personally, I think that $15-20 is a little too much to pay for 3oz of lube, but I might feel differently if I received fireworks like I had been lead to believe. Each person is different, so the feelings that my husband and I received from this product may pale in comparison to what you and your partner feel. If you are curious, give it a try.
