Product Review: Lindt Creme Brulee Chocolate Bar

Laura Brady
Lindt chocolates have a history of quality and decadence. Of course, Lindt is a Swiss company and Switzerland is world renowned for their chocolate. Recently, as in about five minutes ago, I had the privilege of tasting Lindt's Petits Desserts Crème Brulee. It's a 5.3 ounce (or 150 grams for everyone else besides Americans) bar of milk chocolate with a crème Brulee and crunchy caramel filling. All I can say is that I truly love my job sometimes.

Before I get to the nutritional information let me first expound on the flavor of this decadent chocolate treat. The milk chocolate is exquisitely soft and melts gently on your tongue. The crème Brulee filling is sweet and creamy, and the crunchy pieces of caramel do a delicious job of mimicking a real crème Brulee topping. I do wish there was a little more of the filling because the milk chocolate is quite thick and almost overwhelms the brulee's silky taste. This chocolate bar is perfect on its own, but I do have a few ideas for it. It would be perfect paired with a nice red wine, such as a Merlot or a Zinfandel. Another delicious pairing would be with a bitter lager or a dark high gravity beer. It would make a temptingly quick and rich dessert to offer guests squares of this chocolate with a selection of fruits and cheese. Its silky texture, and crunchy creamy filling, and supreme chocolate flavor could also inspire a romantic mood when offered to your spouse or lover.

Now for the nutritional info. This is no health food, that's for sure. However every food has a place in a healthy diet, in moderation. The serving size states 3 blocks, and there are about 3.5 servings per bar. Each serving has 260 calories, 12 grams of fat, o grams of trans fat, 15 mg of sodium (3% of RDA), 22 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of protein. A serving also has 8% of the RDA of calcium and 4% of Iron.

The line of Lindt Petits Desserts also offers two other flavors; tarte citron with lemon filling with crunchy bits of meringue, and truffle cake, which combines a truffle filling with pieces of chocolate cookies. Make no mistake that I will be reviewing these flavors as well. The things I must go through to make a living! I highly recommend trying this decadently delicious dessert chocolate for yourself.
