Product Review: Lindy's Homemade Italian Lemon Ice

Refreshing Treat that is Gluten Free and Fat Free

Diane Zoller-Ciatto
If you are looking to cool off in this hot and steamy summer, we have found the most refreshing and fairly inexpensive treat that is gluten and fat free as well as an excellent source of vitamin C. By the graphics and colorful box that is adorned with the Italian flag and a picture of an old Italian man kissing his fingers as a sign of how delicious this ice tastes. According to Damon and Veronica DeChristoforo, the founders of Lindy's, it was fashioned after the ices that Damon's father Mario Lindbergh DeChristoforo, known as "Lucky Lindy" to his friends. Mario used to make Italian ices for the neighborhood kids when Damon was a kid. I guess Damon was also lucky, as his parents passed on the recipe to him so we could also enjoy this delicious treat. So far I have tried the lemon, orange and cherry flavors, but according to the package, they also have blue raspberry, strawberry/watermelon, and root beer.

I would rate this product with five stars for a delicious refreshing treat. I understand the sugar content is high for anyone who has to watch their sugar, but for only 100 calories for an individual serving, it can be easily regulated.

I got these on sale in my local supermarket for 2 boxes for $5.00 which is about forty-two cents a cup. They are usually $2.99 per box which comes to fifty cents a cup, still a cheap treat compared to what one would pay for small cup of ice at a local Italian ice establishment and as long as they are in your freezer, you don't have to go out to enjoy them.

I miss Italian Ice! There's nothing else like it. Unfortunately, nobody here would even know what you're talking about! They don't know what bagels or cannolis, either. And trying to describe it is like trying to describe the color blue to a blind person.
