As one of the most innovative and quality computer peripheral device makers in the world, Switzerland-based Logitech International® has been marketing their keyboards, wireless mice, game controllers, webcams and computer speaker systems since 1981. In addition to these devices, Logitech® offers a wide array of wireless audio equipment and MP3 audio devices. As a proud new owner of the Logitech® Z313 Computer Speaker System, the following is my personal review of and experience with this one-of-a-kind computer audio accessory.
The Z313 package comes with everything you'll need to enjoy the highest quality, room-filling sound from your PC or Mac computer system. Gone are the days of cheesy, built-in computer speakers with poor audio quality. With the wired control pod resting in the palm of your hand, you decide how much sound, volume and gain you want from your system. With two satellite speakers and one compact subwoofer, this deal can't get any sweeter. The subwoofer will deliver that hard-hitting, "feel the beat" bass sound while generating enough volume to fill any size room.
Additionally, this subwoofer is small, portable and compact enough to fit in even the tightest of spaces. No need to stress about where to sit it. Ringing in at 8.6 inches by 5.9 inches by 9 inches (22.0 cm by 15.0 cm by 22.8 cm), according to Logitech's official web site (www.logitech.com), you'll have no trouble setting it up in even the smallest of rooms. For the best overall sound quality, you will want to keep the subwoofer on the ground, preferably under your computer desk.
Sleek and stylish, boasting bold black with silver trim, the Logitech® Z313 satellite speakers measure out at 3.2 inches by 3.5 inches by 5.75 inches (8.1 cm by 8.9 cm by 14.6 cm), according to Logitech's official web site. The entire system generates a total RMS power of 25 watts (RMS).
If you'll be operating your speakers from a PC laptop or Mac notebook, you'll naturally want to plug the control pod power cord into your computer's headphone port. This will allow the audio you will be playing from your computer to resonate through the Z313 speaker system, as well as grant you total volume control from the pod. However, the control pod itself contains a headphone jack, for easy transfer over to personal, private listening, for those nights when you don't want to bother family members or neighbors with your loud music.
For PC users, you will need Windows® XP or Windows Vista® operating software. Mac users will need MacOS® X 10.3.9 or higher. Additionally, as mentioned above, your computer will need a headphone port or 3.5mm audio output jack to properly connect with the Z313 control pod and subsequently the Z313 speaker system.
Speaking from personal use and experience, the Z313 is capable of performing well for all music types and genres, but performs particularly well when amplifying instrumental tracks, such as movie sound tracks. The set-up time was almost nonexistent. All that is required is to connect the satellite speakers to the subwoofer, plug the subwoofer into a power outlet, and plug the subwoofer/control pod into your computer. In no time at all, you'll be filling your room with your favorite tunes. And whether you'll be using Windows Media Player or iTunes, the Z313 system works well for reflecting your personal EQ settings.
As a Broadcast Journalism major and computer savvy operator who has dealt with a fair share of audio equipment, I personally recommend the Logitech® Z313 computer speaker system to anyone seeking a quality, room-filling audio experience from their PC or Mac computer. Ringing in at just $49.99 on the official Logitech® web site (www.logitech.com), this deal just can't be beat.
