Although it may not catch your eye as quickly as some of the more expensive PC controllers, the Logitech Dual Action PC/PS2 controller is a no-nonsense product that is essential for PC gaming. It is designed exactly like a PS2 controller and, after a quick and painless setup (made possible through a simple installation program that comes packaged as a 3" CD-Rom disc), it simply plugs into one of your USB ports.
The Logitech Dual Action PC/PS2 controller lacks gimmicks, which, in my book, is better. That saves cost; once again, this is the best PC controller for under $20. One specific gimmick it lacks-- and I'm so extremely glad it does lack this-- is the internal vibration devices. I don't feel that gaming should have to vibrate your wrists (gaming is hard enough on the old carpal tunnel) in order to further the gaming experience. While the designers at Logitech may not necessarily agree with my opinion, they were more than insightful when it came to straying away from PC and PS2 controller trends that made internal vibration devices a common inclusion.
The best thing about the Logitech Dual Action PC/PS2 controller is its availability. For the PC savvy individuals reading this: you can simply google 'Logitech Dual Action PC/PS2 controller' and get some quick results. From there it's simply a matter of comparing prices, shipping values, and other specs in regards to your gaming tastes. I, personally, bought my Logitech Dual Action PC/PS2 controller at a Best Buy; it was on sale and was the last one left. I still feel that I could have gotten a better price had I simply googled the controller but, hey, I'm glad a portion of my proceeds went to the kid behind the checkout counter's topical pimple cream.
The Logitech Dual Action PC/PS2 controller has a low-key design too, which is great; it doesn't need to jump out at you with all sorts of whacky colors and stickers. And, best of all, it doesn't make a sound. It's durable, has a long cord, and does the job. Regardless of whether I'm beating up cops or slashing shopkeepers in the parallel universe of Vice City, I can rest assured that I won't have to hurt my Logitech Dual Action PC/PS2 controller by throwing it against the wall in confusion and/or frustration.
