Product Review: MAC Zoomlash Mascara

MAC, or Makeup Artist Cosmetics, is one of the most-trusted brands of cosmetics on the market today. While the products are sold at a higher price point than drugstore cosmetics, the quality is worth the cost. MAC is also socially and environmentally conscious. The proceeds from many of their product lines go to assist worthy causes and charities. MAC also offers a recycling program. Each time a customer brings six empty MAC cosmetic packages to a MAC sales counter, they can receive a free lipstick, which is a value of about $15.

I have a ton of MAC cosmetics in my collection, but I usually stick to their lipsticks and lip liners. When I placed an order with Sephora's online website a few months ago, I received a full-size sample of MACs Zoomlash mascara with my order. I have been on the search for the perfect mascara for years, so I didn't have much hope for this new mascara, but I figured I'd try it. Since it was free, I didn't have anything to lose.

I first tried the Zoomlash mascara on plain, untreated lashes. The first coat lengthened my lashes and filled them out - they looked great. After a second coat, my lashes looked just like an ad for MAC - full and thick and long. I was sold on this mascara.

I then tried the Zoomlash over a lash primer from MAC. The results weren't as good, and I'm not sure what the difference was. I used the primer as directed, and put a first coat of the Zoomlash on. My lashes clumped up and looked terrible. A second coat made them worse.

After my non-scientific experiment, I immediately tossed out all of my drugstore-branded mascara's, and bought a full size tube of MAC Zoomlash. It is now my favorite, everyday mascara. It is a bit pricey at around $14 a tube, but it is definitely worth the cost. MAC mascaras can be purchased at most major department stores, including Macy's and Nordstrom, as well as Sephora and Ulta. You can also purchase from their website at MACcosmetics.com.
