Product Review: MedSlant Therapeutic Wedge Pillow for Acid Reflux or GERD

Enjoy a Good Night's Sleep Without the Discomfort of Acid Reflux

Rebecca Fairbanks
If you've ever been awakened during the night, choking and gasping for breath because of acid reflux, you may want to consider using a wedge pillow instead of your regular bed pillows.

Many doctors recommend wedge pillows to their patients who are suffering from GERD, acid reflux, heartburn, sleep apnea, even some heart troubles, such as congestive heart failure.

There are many reasons why acid reflux might trouble you at night, and interrupt your sleep. You may have GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease); you might be overweight enough that belly fat pressure inside causes stomach acid to reflux up the esophagus; you might have eaten a particularly heavy or greasy meal before bed; you may simply have eaten too late to have let the food have a chance to begin digestion before you retired for the night.

I was experiencing some disturbing episodes of nighttime acid reflux. I was overweight, and I was also in the habit of eating a snack late at night, while I worked at the computer.

Waking up with acid reflux is a very uncomfortable and unpleasant experience. After a couple of these episodes, I tried raising the head of my bed a few inches. I didn't want to disturb my husband's rest by raising up our whole bed, so I stuffed extra blankets underneath my side of the mattress. That didn't work too well.

Next, I tried stacking up four bed pillows. This at least raised me up enough so that I didn't get the acid reflux, but either the pillows shifted around all night long, or I'd wake up with a stiff neck from having it bent too much resting on the stack of pillows.

I was researching the problem online one day, and happened to run across the MedSlant Therapeutic Wedge Pillow from MedSlant.

The MedSlant pillow is a foam pillow, torso-length, so that it supports your upper body without giving you a stiff neck. The MedSlant pillow folds in half; is portable so that you can take it with you when you travel; and comes in a clear vinyl travel bag. When you take your MedSlant pillow out of the bag, you enclose it in the washable, zippable cover that is provided. The company includes an extra pillow cover with your order.

According to the company, it might take a night or two to get used to sleeping in this new, raised position, but I found that I got a good night's sleep the first night I used the pillow. I don't wake up with a stiff neck anymore either.

If you are troubled with acid reflux issues, of course you should get checked by your doctor. You might also want to try the MedSlant pillow for a comfortable night's sleep. I highly recommend it.
