This is a tincture, with the main active ingredients being peppermint leaf and ginger root. It is wonderful for sore tummies! Also soothing for indigestion, flu, diarrhea, vomiting, overeating, heartburn, motion sickness and morning sickness during pregnancy. It really is the remedy to have on hand for digestive support. This is the first thing I reach for when my kids have an upset stomach, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea.
The only downside to this remedy is there is no childproof cap. It also comes in a glass bottle, like all tinctures. But you kind of have to be careful when you have younger children or toddlers around that it doesn't get dropped.
Overall this remedy is great. It should be included in any home remedy medicine cabinet. It would also make a nice gift for expecting parents or a newly pregnant woman suffering from morning sickness as it is really helpful.
You can find this remedy in health food stores or order direct from Herbs for Kids online. It costs about $7 for a 1 oz bottle, but the remedy lasts a long time and has a long shelf life compared to most over the counter medicines.
This remedy is ideal for young children as it is gentle yet effective with no dies effect. It is also calming so it is soothing for sick children. Not to mention it is very tasty and can be administered alone. The bottle comes with a convenient dropper too.
The ingredients are;
Extract of peppermint leaf, fennel seed, chamomile flowers, papaya leaf, ginger root and orange peel. It's base is coconut and/ palm kernel oils, glycerin, purified water and citric acid.
The herbs in this remedy are useful as follows;
Peppermint-Soothing to the digestive system. Also stimulates peristalsis, promoting digestion. Good for all stomach upsets, nausea and helps reduce vomiting.
Fennel Seed-Soothing to the stomach, mild laxative. Encourages secretions of gastric juices and is also effective in treating colic in infants.
Chamomile Flowers- Soothing to the digestive system. This herb also has a nice calming effect. Calms irritable bowels and is a gentle sleep aid.
Papaya Leaf- Helps aid in digestion, helps reduce bloating a vomiting. Also contains lots of good vitamins, like beta carotene.
Ginger Root- ginger is probably the most common herb used for stomach upsets worldwide. It is very effective in soothing stomach ailments of all kinds. It is also warming and helps promote the production of bile from the gallbladder. Ginger is a mild analgesic, sedative and has antibacterial properties as well.
Orange Peel- Contains vitamin C and is good for treating stomach cramping and relieving constipation. Also ginger is soothing to the nerves.
The dosage is determined by your child's weight and should be given 3-4 times daily. You could also use it every half hour until symptoms subside. If your child is under 1 you will want to contact a qualified herbalist or holistic practitioner for advice but this remedy is extremely gentle. I would be comfortable giving it to babies 6 months and up personally.
This product is kosher and uses only herbs that are certified organic or ethically wild harvested. I really like using Herbs for Kids products because I know they are going to work.
Be sure to store this remedy in a cool, dry and dark place. Ours is good for about 2 years and it lasts a really long time as it is very effective in treating stomach pain and upsets.
