Product Review: Morley PDW2 Distortion, Volume, and Wah Guitar Pedal

Andrew Berry
The Morley PDW2 Distortion/Volume/Wah Pedal is a powerful pedal that packs in multiple useful effects into one effective, affordable, and awesome pedal. The listing price can be anywhere from $100-$200, depending on where you look. If you go to www.music123.com or www.samash.com to find it, it is generally cheaper there (about $95).

Personally, I ordered mine off of www.music123.com since I needed an effective Wah pedal. Once I saw this combo pedal for such an affordable price, I had to have it. Not only is it effective, but the looks to the pedal are pretty nice as well. The Wah portion of the pedal is usually known as the "wah-wah pedal" on other pedals, just to clear up any confusion. What the "wah" portion of the pedal does is play with the frequency and tone of the guitar as you play the guitar. Such famous artists like Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix used the wah-wah pedal to create distinctive riffes and solos when creating their songs.

The distortion portion of the pedal is the slight downfall. The distortion lacks some 'crunch' in it, so I purchased a seperate distortion pedal. Together, the team works extraordinarily well to help me create music. Even though the distortion portion of the pedal is it's downfall, that is simply no reason not to get the pedal at all. The wah and volume portions of the pedal are astonishing altogether.

The volume portion of the pedal is another great tool for fades in and out of a song, or a solo. To activate the volume portion of the pedal is more simple than most people think. The distortion and wah portions both have buttons on either side of the physical pedal to initiate their functions. In order to initiate the volume portion of pedal simple turn off both the wah and the distortion functions (the lights near the titles 'Distortion' and 'Wah' will not emit the functioning red light), and the volume function will be turned on. How does one use the volume portion of the pedal? It is very simple in fact. Once you foot is on the physical pedal, moving the front of the pedal down (moving the part of the pedal where your toes are to the floor) will raise the volume. Raising your toes off the floor, and putting your heel to the floor makes the volume of the guitar disappear altogether when the pedal touches the base of the pedal's foundation. The slower you move from one postion to the other will distinct how the guitar's volume variates altogether.

I highly recommend the Morley PDW2 Distortion/Volume/Wah Pedal to any serious guitar player that is looking for some good effects that aren't that costly altogether.

  • The distortion portion lacks a little bit, but that's no reason not to buy this amazing pedal.
