Product Review: Mrs. May's Cashew Crunch

Genie Walker
Not only is this snack free of cholesterol, dairy and gluten; it is delicious. It reminds me of a kinder gentler peanut brittle with a faint taste of Cracker Jacks. When you bite into it it's soft and doesn't crumble like I remember peanut brittle doing. This snack has a wonderful taste of dry roasted cashews. The package says there are no preservatives and it is vegan. It comes in bite sized pieces; 6 pieces per serving size. Though I have to say, if you only eat 6 pieces in one sitting you are doing better than me. There are 5.5 servings per bag and I've already eaten the whole bag in three days. This healthy snack is so good that it's hard not to make a pig of your self. Even now, I'm thinking I need to go back to the store and do another test taste to make sure I do a review worthy of it.

Nutritional facts: 172 calories; 12 grams of fat (2g saturated fat, 0g trans fat); 40mg sodium, 4 grams of sodium and 9 grams of total carbohydrates (2 g dietary fiber, 4g sugar) per serving. Ingredients: Cashews, sesame seeds, rice malt, evaporated cane juice and sea salt. Like most healthy snacks it is a little expensive; it costs for $3.79 for the 5.5 oz bag if you buy it online. I found it at Wal-Mart for $2.50.

According to Mrs. May's website (www.mrsmays.com/) Cashew Crunch has only been in their catalog since July 3. 2007. Online you can buy it in 3 sizes: 2 oz., 5.5 oz and 28 oz. I'm torn between thinking "Thank goodness the store only sells 5.5 ounce sized bags," and "Why doesn't my store carry the 28 ounce sized bags?" I really enjoy this snack and probably should stick with buying one bag at a time of the smallest bag I can get, because I just want to keep eating them until the bag is empty.

On the package it says that a portion of money used to purchase the product is donated to the Wheels for the World, which is a nonprofit program dedicated to distributing wheelchairs to disabled people around the world. According to the Wheels for the World website (http://www.joniandfriends.org/pg_wheelchair.php) they donated 38,000+ wheelchairs in 2006 to 86 different countries. I like that not only am I'm buying a healthy snack, but a portion of my money goes to helping others.

This review of Mrs. May's Cashew Crunch can be summed up into one word: yummy.
